Been working on a nice project with Middlesbrough Council's Neighbourhood Caretakers to give Saltwells Park in my ward a bit of tlc.

The team have repainted the fencing and equipment, as well as tidying the area and cutting back the shrubbery.

It's looking much better!

Last week we celebrated that Religious Education (RE) will officially be added to the National Curriculum in England – and that it’s expected to be fully inclusive of humanism. 🎉 But why is this such an important step forward? 👇 humanists.uk/2025/11/11/w...

We will remember everyone.

Everyone who fought, who lived, who died, and every conscientious objector, too.

We will remember their sacrifice.

We will remember their belief in freedom, and the common humanity that unites us.

More good news! We argued strongly for primary citizenship. It builds empathy, debate, and responsibility from day one, and we’re delighted to see scientific literacy elevated. In an age of misinformation, helping pupils test claims against evidence is a vital skill.

Some wonderful news this morning 🎉

We've campaign on this for decades. Now, we look forward to working with the UK Government to make it happen.

When it comes to religion and belief, children deserve an objective, broad, and balanced education.

Great to see the bollards Central ward cllrs requested after residents asked for measures to tackle bad parking, installed on Breckon Hill Rd and Lytton St.

The bollards were paid for with some of our Priorities Fund allocation - an investment of £1750!

Out in South Bank this morning to campaign for my good friend Sue Jeffrey. Despite retiring from the Council in 2023, Sue is standing to represent her community again in the by-election 🌹🗳

Most people are shocked to learn that ALL state-funded in schools are legally required to hold daily acts of worship.

We’re campaigning to change that – and replace worship with assemblies that all children can participate in.

Across the UK, thousands of children are still being denied the fair education every child deserves – shut out of local schools because their families are the ‘wrong’ faith, or hidden away in illegal ones with no real lessons at all.

A few weeks ago I approached Middlesbrough Council's Neighbourhood team with an idea to makeover Saltwells Park in my ward. They've sprung into action, and on Friday I popped over to see the Neighbourhood Caretakers carrying out the work. Still a lot of work to go but it's already looking better 👌

What? No. Religion in schools should be taught about from an objective and broad view, giving children the chance to think for themselves about what they believe. Learning about different religions or beliefs is not 'brainwashing'. What is closer to indoctrination is insisting on Christian-only RE.

About time!

In past decades, it was common to host ‘chickenpox parties’ to get the infection ‘over with early’ for small children. But this has an impact on schooling, parents’ work, and immunocompromised people. And the dormant VZV virus leaves those children at risk of shingles later in life.
