Yawaru from Twitter. I’m basically treating this like New Game+ on a fresh character. I’m going to stick to video game stuff here, isn’t it fascinating how gaming has evolved over the decades?

Never got around to finishing Secret of Mana, started playing the mobile port version of Dragon Quest 1-3, played through the first 2 already and I'm at the final part of three, got all of Erdrick's Armor and Sword, got the Rain Staff and Emblem, haven't gotten the Sunstone yet.

Welp, still haven’t finished Secret of Mana yet but I’ve been reading the Kingdom Hearts 2 manga, I’m on the 4th omnibus and it’s making me want to pick up the series again. I only played KH on PS2 and some Dream Drop Distance on 3DS, but I have The Story So Far collection in my backlog already.

More people should be talking about The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, just saying.
Archipel released a short doc on The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy featuring Kodaka, Uchikoshi, Takada, & Komatsuzaki. Despite its smaller runtime, lots of valuable insight on what it took to develop that monster of a game. Incredible work as always from Archipel www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ6m...

So I was playing Secret of Mana for the first time and it struck me how difficult the game was, but I’m struggling to use the UI of the game and the manual the Switch provides doesn’t explain it, and it seems pretty harsh the beginning of the game is being an asshole to you as the player immediately

I’m wondering how much potential Acclaim has for making a comeback, trying to ramp up to 4 releases a year probably seems ambitious given the current state of the game industry but they used to release dozens of sports and licensed games in their prime.

I’ve been playing Super Neptunia RPG lately, I’ve known of the series and seen playthroughs but this is the first Neptunia game I’ve actually played. The combat system is interesting that I like but I’m not completely sold on, it’s a bit exposition heavy for my taste but I’m over 10 hours in so far.

Ambition is nice but you gotta figure out how to pay for it first, and banking on breakout success is just gambling. Unknown 9 is terrible SEO, just wanting a thing to be popular isn’t enough no matter how much money you think you can throw at it.

It’s all just talk until something hits the books, all that “he’s just joking” stuff hitting a bit different now, huh? All those long term plans that seemed to be set in stone just got real fluid real quick.

I was playing Space Hulk Vengeance of the Blood Angels on Saturn yesterday, now a 30 year old game, thinking about what made a full release game back in the 90s compared to now. It was published by EA before they found easy money selling gambling to children and games still came with manuals.

So, I’ve been playing Marvel Rivals, I’ve played for about 35 hours total and played all but two characters: Black Widow and Hawkeye. I tend to stick to tank/support since I’m not very good with aim, hence avoiding snipers. Plus yeah most people want to play as Duelists anyway.

I played a bit of Marvel Rivals, definitely getting Overwatch vibes but the magic isn’t there for me this time around. It’s not a bad game but kinda shocking how threadbare it is. UI is kinda ass, I tried out the gallery and nothing loaded on the single comic book but speed lines.

Okay, uninstalled The First Descendant and Warframe, had to make room for Marvel Rivals to try something new.

Also add from my backlog:
Alan Wake
Crazy Taxi
Sonic Generations

Up to Act 5 on Path of Exile, still not “wow’d” by anything but it’s a solid experience so far.
The games I have on there now are
Aegis Wing
Doom 64
The First Descendant
Gears of War
Gears or War 2
Gears of War 3
Gears of War 4
A Hat in Time
Injustice 2
Metal Gear Rising: Revengence
Path of Exile
Star Wars Racer
Warframe
Yooka-Laylee
Zone of Enders HD collection

Still thinking about this post and the implication that publishers are the problem with the “indie” scene, but I think what Devolver does is pretty cool, and part of my childhood I had a particular admiration for Working Designs for the games they published.
That "indie" is where innovation happens generally isn't true anymore. We iterate to breakthroughs. At large, indie is more risk-averse & homogenous than it's been - publishers gatekeep, focus on graphics, and balloon budgets. Innovation comes from self-published games launching their practice game.

Ubisoft is becoming too big to succeed. There is a belief that big publishers with all their IP will spread the workload and pool resources, which they do to an extent, but it takes players for granted to assume they can sell whatever monetization model they want just because they’re Ubisoft.

Up to Act 5 now, I got through most of Act 4 with lvl 15-20 gear. It was just kind of a hassle to mess with sockets/gems plus I didn’t get many decent swords. Ended up getting a lvl 43 Estoc from the shipment and fixed my gear and skills.
Got through Act 3, upgraded some gear, got a new move and basically playing the game like Inosuke from Demon Slayer, now complete with attacking forward, throwing swords, hitting twice and spinning Beyblade of Doom.
