So over the past couple months I’ve been, under no threat of violence whatsoever, taking dictation on a scifi actioner in novella form. I think there’s about a quarter of it left to do.

I’ve also, with no gun pressed against the back of my head, provided the cover art for it.

Knoxville visit thread

Still in Lexington, but made a day trip to Knoxville yesterday
Cumberland Motor Co. with a fully clothed dummy outside Xul Brewing entrance, with the door handles looking like black keys that have have skulls on the handles also there is golden girls trivia T-shirts for sale at Xul. beneath them are skulls used to display hat merch Pickup truck on a small grass plot in front of a building with a bunch of ivy on it. This is all just next to a small street with a blue-gray building at the end

Iblard: Laputa no Kaeru Machi (PS1) (1997)

Deeper in the forest we find a small clearing with some shrubs and rocks in the shape of fish heads, sticking out of the ground and rotating like a carnival tea cup ride, guarding a faraway pedestal with a floating golden crescent moon. I think the meth is starting to kick in. Another small forest corner with a white marble gazebo emitting pure white light inside of it. I think this is where they filmed that scene from My Best Friend's Wedding where Julia Roberts confesses her love for Dermot Mulroney (spoilers!) but Cameron Diaz sees them and runs away but Dermot Mulroney realizes it was a mistake and runs after her and then Julia Roberts runs after Dermot Mulroney and they're comically running through the meadow and the old ladies are sipping tea and one of them says "oh that's our maid of honor, she's from New York" and everyone nods in disgust. The colorful red, purple and green land of dinosaurs with high rolling mountains and dome shaped trees. You seem to be interrupting a family picnic of four cute purple dinos as they were eating a watermelon. In fact you startled them so much that the papa dino dropped his watermelon, smashing it on the ground and is looking at you mildly annoyed. The dino you previously met at their igloo-hut turns out to be the mama dino and she's carrying a rolled up scroll in her mouth, probably a restraining order because you keep harassing her family. A flowery meadow ending at a river bank with a nearby small island housing a blue glass greenhouse with a single tree next to it. Fantastical green hills and mountains cover the horizon, the nearer shaped like triangles and the further ones like curves, perhaps implying that the land was created by an EDM DJ shaping the terrain from sawtooth and sine waves. It's a good time as any to mention that this game was inspired by and made with collaboration with artist Naohisa Inoue who is famous for his lush colorful paintings of his imaginary land of Iblard, probably best known from the fantastical floating islands scenes in Ghibli's Whisper of the Heart. He also directed a 30 minute 2007 OVA called Iblard Jikan with Studio Ghibli which depicts the same world of Iblard seen in this game.

A young man reads his grandfather's fantasy book about the wondrous land of Iblard, a green lush world of floating islands or laputas, magic and pastel colors and is soon isekai'd into Iblard via a floating train, very similar to the one depicted here. We see a vast meadow stretching into the horizon under bright blue skies and a few hedges and rocks surrounding a nearby shrubby platform with some thin trees, serving as a train station platform for an art deco hover train that slides on floating transparent crystals. It's all very pastel colored and magical. ✨ A dense forest path leading to a big chunk of rock with a golden symbol of the crescent moon on it and the cutest little orange fox creature standing on top of it, observing you from above and look so proud at the idea of being taller than you even though it's just standing on a tall rock. A colorful garden with purple, green and orange hills in the far distance and an igloo-shaped purple hut with glass windows serving as the home of a cute purple dinosaur creature with Pikachu eyes. It's like if a velociraptor was a cute little squishy huggable guy. It's standing in front of the doorway of its home, looking at you kinda concerned because you're obviously eyeing the shiny blue crystal that's displayed on the cupboard. It looks just like a brick of the deepest blue crystal meth you've ever seen and it's curiously looking just like the magical artifact that brought you to Iblard in the first place. After some adventuring, the cute orange fox brings you to a peculiar shrub that turns out to be a gentle giant forest man covered in grass and shrub with thick shrubby eyebrows, gentle squinting eyes, puffy nose and majestic shrubby mustache. He's also my avatar for this profile! He only speaks the forest language that sounds right out of The Black Lodge and then he gives you a brick of pure blue meth. Perhaps drugs will help you understand his cosmic language (I'm confident it will).
