There is absolutely a NYTs group chat that Douthat, Klein, and Weiss (Madam CBS) are regularly engaged in for bad takes. You can’t tell me these three centrist liberals haven’t made it their goal to destroy the anti-genocide, anti-fascist, uncompromising wing of progressive American politics.
I suspect that a lot of people will find Mamdani's uncompromising progressivism much more appealing than a centrism that appears to think we should calculate our moral stances on the basis of whether we expect them to bump us 1 or 2 points in the polls.

As the arrest unfolded, teachers pleaded with the agents telling them the teacher had a work permit. The agents went into multiple rooms looking for teachers while children were present. One teacher hid with a child in her care while the agents stormed the facility.

If you replaced the word “divided” with “dissimilar,” in this poll, you’d get a similar response. Basically, 64% of Americans believe America is too diverse, and can’t function unless Anglo-Protestant culture is once again the dominant center of American life.
