Universities drive economic growth. This has been proved time and again. A couple of airport expansion projects that won’t start for a decade, if ever, will not. And yet we are witnessing right now sector-wide catastrophic failure of HE in the UK.

I wonder if the UK economy might receive a larger, less environmentally destructive boost from a sustainable and fully functioning Higher Education sector than, I don't know, a third airport runway 🤷‍♂️

So do we now have a definition on what “once in a generation”means? www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c2...
'Once in a generation' Storm Éowyn leaves 117,000 Scottish homes without power
Wind speeds topped 100mph as buildings were damaged, trees felled, roads closed, drivers injured and schools and supermarkets closed.

Kemi Badenoch at #PMQs: "We had a budget in March this year and tractors were not blockading the streets of Whitehall afterwards."

Here are the tractors blockading the streets of Whitehall in March this year. They were protesting - you really couldn't make this up - Badenoch's trade policies. 😂

The BBC is making itself irrelevant. This appears on their website today. The date on the page is incorrect too.

It's been snowing in the UK and the road gritters are out in force, begging the question:
Have you ever wondered where that grit actually COMES from?
The answer is more magical, beautiful and fascinating than you probably realised.

With below freezing temperatures forecast this week, it could be a good time to "trial" lower flow temperatures with your gas boiler to see if your house is heat pump ready. You can always turn it back it if things don't work out.

Cold days can be very useful. 👍

So, Brighton, Aston and Hull are going/gone, and the next one is Reading.
Universities have no money, chemistry departments are expensive, and increasingly there is pressure on to close them.
Vandalising the UK science base in this way will do no good in the long run.

Hi everyone 👋

Bluesky is growing so rapidly – so we want to share some key information about cancer, for anyone here who might need it.

Nearly 1 in 2 people in the UK will get cancer – so if this thread might be of use to anyone you know, please pass it on to them.
