My son's dog - a standard-sized goldendoodle - is staying with us for a few days. He is very curly-fluffy and looks like he would be so much fun to cuddle. However, somehow there is ALWAYS part of him (usually his chin) that is surprisingly and unexpectedly wet.

Seriously, friends... If you are submitting an application with a writing sample that is flush with em-dashes... I don't know what to tell you. We are reasonably certain that's not your writing. That's ChatGPT. Come on, now. At least go back and edit.

Shaw Nature Center is celebrating its 100th year this year! We really enjoyed hearing Dr. Quinn Long's presentation on its history and work tonight.

Incidentally, local friends: if you haven't seen the Science Center's exhibit on Pompeii, definitely go. It's extremely well done, and (despite the levity in the photo of my daughter) very moving.

Today I'm putting together a list of stuff we need for my youngest as we prepare for him to leave for college. I have lots of feelings, of course, but I ran across this picture of his second grade science notebook. We are sending him into the world equipped with the important stuff, at least.

I've spent the past three months trying to pull together data for PS's 2005-2015 sessions so we can finally calculate accurate stats. I just clicked 'import'.... OMG the stress.

My husband has a new phone, and can take macro pictures whenever he likes. So I get random messages like this now. #EntomologistsWife

Ah yes. Time for my annual post-conference cold. 🤒 So far not too bad; could still be environmental stress. But my apologies to those sitting near me at the Muny just in case.

We got home from Botany2025 in time to see Dear Evan Hansen on the Muny stage during one of the most beautiful nights of this St. Louis summer! That's a win!

Another great moment for us at #Botany2025! When we learned our plenary speaker would be unable to speak as planned, Dr. Catrina Adams stepped up and gave the plenary in her place. She did an AMAZING job of highlighting PlantingScience's 20 years of supporting plant education!

Listening to the Ed/Outreach talks at #Botany2025 makes me wish we had more HS/MS teachers here. So much great information here! 🌾🌱🌳

Tariffs get all the attention, but ask economists what they're really worried about and many will point to the Trump administration's cuts to federal support for the sciences, including canceling grants and revoking student visas.

I heard the wildest conspiracy theory ever today. Apparently the going rationale as to why bird flu affects egg prices now when last year it was Biden's incompetence is because Biden orchestrated a mass murdering of egg laying hens in his final weeks in office. To...make a point? Be evil? Okay...
