I've been largely ill for the last three weeks and grateful I didn't have much on but I just realised eight writing commissions have snuck up on me in the last week and now I'm sort of panicking?

As a proud Parramatta local I want everyone to know about Yumna Kassab's Dictionary, a series of vignettes that say as much about the author as the places she visits.
Parramatta: A Dictionary of Place and Memory | Sydney Review of Books
In Parramatta: A Dictionary of Place and Memory, Yumna Kassab presents a personal catalogue of the institutions, sites, experiences, and people making up the cultural life of a city for which she has ...

Boff, who is diabetic, has just attempted to take my blood sugar reading like 6 times (because I'm still ill and we want a data point) but apparently I don't bleed enough after being stabbed.

My time widget just changed to Mandarin. No idea how or why. Instead of 2 November it reads 11月 2日.

I'm killing time at Customs House before I head up to the Opera House for a concert and the police are currently trying to eject an unhoused guy and I'm not sure how to feel about it. On the one hand he did yell at everyone for a bit but otherwise is just sitting around like the rest of us.

I have been feeling 'off' for about three days (fatigue, no appetite, low grade headache) and have only just realised my symptoms all align to dehydration but I cannot tell you how much liquid I've been drinking, like 2L water and 1L tea a day, wtf?

It was stupefyingly hot today, but on the up side I got a week's worth of laundry done in one hit.

"An AI crash could lead broadly to less spending, fewer jobs, and slower growth, potentially dragging the economy into a recession."

Talk about tech bros suffering from sunk cost fallacy ruining people's actual lives.

Bought a bag at an op shop. The lining was a bit torn but fixable. When I went to sew it up I found out it hadn't even been properly emptied by the previous owner (receipts, plastic bags, unused mask etc) and got annoyed... until I found $2.

I am convinced there are baby pigeons on Boff's balcony but his room is a hazard to walk through so I can't check and I can't remove them.

I can hear them ALL DAY. Not even their parents have to listen to them all day, they get to fly out into the world and get food.

Sweet teas are made of these: It’s fair to say putting sugar in tea is a colonial invention, and has been debated since.

I just read about a gluten-free hair mask.

I'm not sure who is eating their hair masks or how many have gluten in them normally, but it's good to know there are gluten-free ones.

Genuinely love the simple response that if you don't like my books, don't read them.
So. While I was on vacation in Taiwan, I received this exceedingly entitled email from "a fan" that I have just responded to. I think she'll regret emailing me, but I hope she reads my reply. I will post my (very lengthy) reply in this thread.
