If you’re a journalist or lawmaker still planning to attend the White House Correspondents Dinner after WHCA cancelled Amber Ruffin to placate a petty tyrant, you need to dig deep and ask yourself why you’re really still going because it sure as hell isn’t to celebrate the First Amendment.

Who are we as a country that we tolerate this year after year after year?
This rot is so deep and and so macabre and so accommodated over decades by leaders - Mayors, Governors, both political parties, the DOJ. And we will never be a healthy democracy while this is a regular and tolerated aspect of the American criminal legal system.
At least three of the New York prison guards implicated in the brutal beating death of a handcuffed man had been accused of participating in similar attacks on prisoners across the state.

One of the NYPD brass said “this isn’t blue bloods” when explaining they can’t just immediately find the guy and I like that years of copaganda have set standards cops can’t meet and might be contributing to people’s correct perception that cops don’t effectively stop crime or find killers.
