Found out today that the third book in the series of which I am writing books 4-6 was released last month and is currently in the top 250 of book sales on Amazon. Not just KidLit or Graphic Novels, but...Books.

SLICE was great. They've really done a lot with it the last few years. It was amazing watching Rori in the spotlight, she shines so brightly in it. Reconnected with faces I've missed, and I got to be a big sloppy insufferable wife guy all weekend, which is my anti-drug (but also drugs.)

It does turn out that Warriors fans are honestly pretty great, sweet, and welcoming. I was worried, I've never written for a fandom before, and some of them are horrible. I hope they still like me when they read it.

It's Portfolio Day and I'm technically an artist, but not a pro. I long ago gave up the idea that my art would earn me a living.
So now I just say, "I draw indie comics. You've probably never heard of me." I really lean into that, actually. Which is one reason why my avi is Hipster Ariel.

In my youth, people often told me I had so much potential to become somebody.
Like a famous artist or something.
But I have never been able to live up to this potential.
Now, decades later, I understand why.
For a while I thought it was Borderline Personality Disorder.
But I found out what it actually is.

It turns out one can be ADHD and autistic at the same time.
That's a hard-hitting one-two punch that makes everything I try to do much more difficult and frustrating.

[Behind me are some folks. Two are chatting. Another two are flirting. I cannot tell the difference.]
It's why I don't understand how people work.
For example, I always misinterpret social cues.

[Around me are examples of hobbies and projects I've abandoned or left unfinished. I look very sad/frustrated.]
Vintage computers; making videos for my YouTube channel; belly dance (and dance in general); my graphic novel; my homebuilt electronic wind instrument (and music-making in general); volleyball (specifically sand court)
It's why I abandon hobbies and never finish what few projects my executive dysfunction actually allows me to start.

It's why I sometimes lose my shit over something completely trivial.
Like an itchy tag irritating the back of my neck.

I am AuDHD. It's not a bug. It's a feature.
Which is fine, I guess. I'd definitely rather be autistic than borderline.

I'm 50 years old now. I've always been like this. It's not going to change.
I'm fundamentally dysfunctional.

On the bright side, I guess I don't need to feel pressured to try and become someone anymore.

The most common note I get from one GN collaborators is "too many panels" on a spread, which is true, but we have to pack two novels into 256 pages. We're gonna have 14-panel spreads here and there. Some of this is going to get squeezed, our job is to figure out what.

Waiting at Old Navy while Rori exchanged a shirt, Pink Pony Club pops on the radio, I feel the dread immediately, like Rogar Rabbit resisting the Two-Bits response. It's inevitable that I wouldn't be able to resist and start dancing around the place like an asshole. Not kidding, I had to leave.

I'm toying with the idea of doing a "What's Up Tigrelily" treatment on V for Vendetta. I haven't see anything like that since The Funisher if anyone remembers that gem. Webcomics used to be such a trip. Feels harder to find the unique ones today with corporate bullshit in the mix.
