Georges Bataille, quoted by des Forêts: "We need to say that violence stemming from the whole humanity, it has stayed without speech of its own, thus that all of humanity lies by omission and that language itself is built on lying."

I really don't have a greater point, but PTA as a filmmaker seems really foreign to me, and I struggle with judging him because of it. When I say something positive or negative about him, I think I am wrong or dumb - he is just confusing to me.
Just saw someone refer, in an apparently complimentary way, to There Will Be Blood as "Kubrick by way of George Stevens," and well if that isn't a perfectly succinct way to describe what I'm not crazy about from that period of PTA

@ruizdiariesjaime.bsky.social I want to fact check to make sure I am not spreading misinformation on the subject of Raúl Ruiz. What was his relationship with Serge Daney because I read his one quote in his diary as being somewhat negative on him.

Have you seen Fritz Lang's The Blue Gardenia? It is very under-appreciated noir film about the performances and fantasy that define romance, which is tied with a charming bow with a story of a murder of a shitty artist.
wish more of Film Twitter had moved over here, because the ratio of politics to nonsense fun things is way out of whack

I do want to say that I really like listening to the latest FKA Twigs on car speakers; but don't like hearing the album with Headphones.

Is this a dialectical understanding of music??? probably not - found it funny to say this.

I was going to confess some strange and dubious information about my 13 year old self and decided not too in the end.

But to still comment to get a mild sense of the unknown on this site.
When I was 13, I was watching the Adrian Lyne Lolita remake on YouTube. I have no fucking idea why I was doing any of the things I did then
"well as long as it's age appropriate" no fuck you guys actually, i read adult books when i was 12 and now i'm weird as hell, as i SHOULD be

Bringing the edge by saying fuck you to Michel Ciment.
This would’ve made numbers on the other app but this place is too nice (not a complaint).

As someone who has a decent interest in french cinema, I will admit to the fact I haven't seen any of the films by Henri-Georges Clouzot or Marcel Carné (in part because of a general Cahier bias); but I should probably give their works a try once.

Trying to think of all my mutuals who I once had and don't know if they are on here or not
January 22, 2025 at 12:07 AM
There is also the filmmaker Felipe Bragança, who I am categorizing as should explore more even though it seems the one mutual I have is quite lukewarm on his work, I think that I could be charmed by somewhat fantastical allegorically filmmaking that is infused with doomed romance.

I will comment on the films showing at Berlin's main competition because I want to pass time even though I don't have much to say, the new Hong, which I am sure is great; he is artistic coward for deciding to hire a sound-guy once again, Alain Cavalier would never.

I decided to express my misery solely on here

David Lynch was one of the great artists of American Cinema, in documenting the moral paradoxes that define American life, so may he rest in peace.

Do I have anything on my mind other than the usual suspects...I am trying to pass time and I can't think of what to say or if I have much - bof.

I wish that I wasn't hyper-fixed on the racial politics of Luca Guadagnino - I wish I was a good enough writer to do exorcism so I can have a sense of closure with these thoughts, or it might not happen.

I fucking love this movie. Here’s a Letterboxd review I left in my Notes app bc I’m a coward. And if you have other Zalman King faves, I’d love to hear about them

Here is some cool looking screenshots from Zalman King's Shame, Shame, Shame

I wrote a long ramble-some post on how much Wild Orchid II: Two Shades of Blue has stayed with me and why I adore it, and accidentally deleted - bof.

@danielgorman20.bsky.social watch it!!!! because I want to know another person who has seen it. This is what the people care about.

I will comment on intimacy coordinators because that is what people want to hear, they might work or not, I can't really tell you, how much merit they have when it comes to production. I feel like it would most likely take time to know if they have much an effect either positive or negative.

Jean Cocteau's Orpheus is a masterwork, which I misunderstood like 3 or 4 years ago.
December 19, 2024 at 12:37 PM
I do want to point there is an irony of adapting a Burroughs' novel inspired strongly by André Gide and deciding for the film adaptation of the Burrough's novel, to incorporate iconography and ideas from the works of Jean Cocteau.
