Wanted to introduce myself. I'm a poet and health journalist. My third book, The New Life, just came out with Cornerstone Press. As the mom of queer kid and a lover of humanity, I've been super depressed/terrified these past few days. Hoping to find some light in the literary community here.

I listened this morning. It was wonderful 🤍
Grateful to @hanvanderhart.bsky.social for our conversation about Unrivered & writing community. I'm always afraid to do interviews and podcasts, but Han makes it feel easy.
Of sonnet crowns, of John Donne & the body, of taking formal risks, of writing with sacred texts, of dysmorphia & finding joy & sweater weather & so much more!

Episode 78 with @djvorreyer.bsky.social is here! Join us as Donna reads from her forthcoming UNRIVERED (@sundresspub.bsky.social) 🎙️💙🎉

What joy to have a new poem in the latest, gorgeous Alaska Quarterly Review, a journal I’ve long admired. Grateful to Ronald Spatz and the editorial staff. 🤍

Grateful to @rustandmoth.bsky.social for publishing this new poem. It's a difficult one—part of my new manuscript. This is one of a series of Alzheimer's sonnets that appear throughout the manuscript. XOXO.

It's been a wild few weeks, including getting my oldest ready for college (gulp!). But coming up for air to share these sweet words about my book.

So grateful for Robin Turner for including The New Life in her #sealeychallenge. What an honor. It made my day.

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

Gorgeous poem 🤍
It was always the mountain
and me. Paris Mountain.
The woods were mine:
tree tops, rocks, creeks,
space between. I topped
for the first time on leaves
straddling felled trees.

Read this stunning, tender essay by @hanvanderhart.bsky.social. Just, wow.
“We are in a deep evening now; I was in a deep evening then. The pond and the pond’s singers—they exist, and sing.”

I have an essay up today which was OH SO TENDER to write—many thanks to @jeremylybarger.bsky.social for his astute edits 🙏📚

Come for the pond, stay for the CD Wright and Linda Gregg.

Summer reading — Jennifer Martelli’s PSYCHIC PARTY UNDER THE BOTTLE TREE is one of the best books I’ve read on sobriety. Tender, and funny. Honest and fierce. Here’s my favorite poem —

Grateful to @rachelnm.bsky.social for sharing this folio for her incredible—and much needed—new venture, Calul Journal. "Hakol Calul" means "everything is included” in Hebrew. The journal is an inclusive space for Jewish voices (and others) to share their experiences and truths.
