A nerdy dad and his hobbies.

Miniature painting, leatherworking, 3D printing, and gaming.
Stayed up too late and forgot to post my day 6 hobby efforts. Shaded and highlighted the brass and started the basecoat on the gunmetal. still need to get the brightest brass highlights. Really looking forward to weathering. Orks feel too clean without it.

Hobby day #5 and I've got the yellow mostly done. Worked on some of the other areas but have more work to do on the red and brass. Once they're done I'll start on the weathering and damage. I am second guessing the amount of brass as it doesn't really stand out as much as I'd like against the yellow

Super duper short hobby day for #4. Mostly spent experimenting with Sharpie's acrylic markers. The yellow brush tip one is the perfect edge highlight color over Army Painter's Moonbeam Yellow from the John Blanche series. Please excuse the potato quality pictures. Will take better ones tomorrow.

Hobby day #3! I feel like I can actually start calling it a streak now. Still working on the yellow. So many layers to get it opaque! Then a thinned targeted wash of Reikland Fleshshade before I start highlighting. I like a worn and sketchy look so there will be a lot of variety to the highlighting.

Short hobby day for day #2. Went and saw Frankenstein in the theater with the family and did a few loads of laundry so didn't get to the hobby table until late. Applying a thousand layers of yellow to get a smooth base. Should have used the airbrush. Need to prime tons of stuff. Maybe tomorrow.

Giving public accountability a shot. We'll call this day 1 of my hobby streak. Borrowing inspiration from @electricbluedragon.bsky.social. Got my Mörderin Kickstarter minis cleaned up and put together. I've got so much in progress on my desk there's no telling what will inspire me tomorrow.

@realgdt.bsky.social is truly a master. I felt the shift from Victor accepting his fate to fully and finally accepting responsibility. I hope one day to share a similar dialog with my dad and dread sharing it with my child.

This is a great article about the Kaiser strike and what it's actually about. oregoncapitalchronicle.com?p=18729

Took the kiddo cherry picking. Spent more time in the car than we did picking fruit and left with $80 worth of cherries but it was totally worth it. It feels like we don't get to spend as much one-on-one time together now that they're getting big.

I really appreciate the work the older generations have put in. They manage to keep me feeling young since I'm still complaining about adults and refusing to speak to my parents well into my 40s.

Struggling to decide if we should go berry or cherry picking. This is by far my favorite time of the year.

The man who owned the comic shop I spent a lot of my formative years at died. His shop was where I first played MtG and Warhammer and met and kissed my first girlfriend. I spent more time at his shop than I did with my own dad. He kept in touch with me almost 30 years. Bill Rissman was a great man.

I'm honestly really grateful that Facebook is going the way it is. I needed to know that my decision to disable my account after the election was the right call. Now I just need to figure out how to disconnect from Instagram and I'll be clear of meta. Where else will I find memes though?!

My goal for this year is to spend at least a few minutes each day on a hobby. I didn't prioritize "me time" last year and I struggled because of that. It's hard as an at-home dad to make time for myself. To justify spending energy on me, but burnout exists in every job. Even being an at-home parent.

I want a live action Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. All characters are to be played by their voice actor in a green bodysuit with a character-sized pillow. No CGI. Actors in green suits will not be painted out. Actors voicing more than one character will go between pillows so we know who's talking.

If you thought spending the holidays with family was hard, try quietly and calmly watching your kid play Mario Party.

2024: the movie Idiocracy is a beautiful and aspirational look at a future brighter than our own. a tantalizing glimpse into a better world that has already slipped from our fingertips.

I never really used Twitter. I think I was too concerned about doing it right and getting followers. I'm older now and really only care about influencing my kid. Here's to not fucking that up too badly!
