When Ultima Online (UO) stopped being cautious about banning griefers, our population doubled. A very small number of users (< 0.1%) were throttling our growth. The vast majority of people just don't want to spend their idle time in a shitty place.
Speaking of the average social media user: “just ban the Nazis” seems like a very simple and obvious move to a LOT of people.
While tech nerds historically prefer to argue about this in immense detail, philosophical conversations about blocking Slurs88 are a real hard sell to a lot of people.
