I explore water extreme events — floods and droughts — and how they reshape our landscapes and lives | Postdoctoral researcher and science communicator @ Uni Potsdam | PhD in water security
Meine KollegInnen und ich freuen uns riesig, euch endlich unseren WaX-Film vorstellen zu können.
Bitte schaut rein - es lohnt sich!

🧪 For some lighter science news here's an intriguing story from the thawing north. I first encountered it when Leanne presented a poster with her excellent undergraduate research at a student symposium a few months ago. Now science writer Ned Rozell wrote this: www.uaf.edu/news/the-hol...
The ‘Hole-in-the-Ground Girl’
Leanne Bulger recently found a new hole in the forest floor on the west end of Fairbanks. Into it, she poked a long plastic pipe.

Annegret Thieken was awarded the Plinius-Medal at the #EGU25. 🤩 Congratulations!
She is not only an exceptional flood risk researcher, but also an amazing research group leader. I love being part of her team.

Beni in Bolivia is in a state of disaster after severe flooding. In 2014, this region was also affected by an exceptional flood and impacts on water insecurity, nutritional status and health were studied in Tsimane’ communities. These lessons are useful in today’s flood response and recovery. #floods

A humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Bolivia after devastating floods. Around 270,000 people urgently need shelter, food, water, and sanitation. Waterborne disease risks are rising, with suspected cases of dengue and Hantavirus. Safe water in shelters is critical. #BoliviaFloods

What are the consequences when the rainy season extends beyond its usual end? In Bolivia, persistent rainfall into April — intensified by the 2024–2025 El Niño event — has contributed to severe flooding and widespread impacts. #BoliviaFloods #ElNino2025
