The Washington Post Tech Guild
@wapotechguild.bsky.social
We are the tech workers at The Washington Post.
Today we marched to engineering management's offices to deliver our unanswered questions about a tool the company is evaluating that would stack rank employees, violating status quo & disrespecting our union.

We won’t back down when they violate our rights and then ignore our concerns.

We stand with our Post Guild colleagues in condemning the unjust firing of Opinion Columnist Karen Attiah. It’s both dangerous and self-defeating to take away authoritative strong voices. The Washington Post Tech Guild stands with Karen and will continue to show up for her rights. No one fights alone
The Washington Post wrongly fired Opinions columnist Karen Attiah over her social media posts. The Post not only flagrantly disregarded standard disciplinary processes, it also undermined its own mandate to be a champion of free speech.

The right to speak freely is the ultimate personal liberty and the foundation of Karen’s 11-year career at The Post. We’re proud to call Karen a colleague and a longtime union sibling. The Post Guild stands with her and will continue to support her and defend her rights.

Today we took a collective lunch break along with our siblings @postguild.bsky.social!

The Post unilaterally decided to make us return to the office 5 days a week, so we convened for lunch to share how this policy is impacting our members. We are united! ✊

It's official: the ballots have been counted and we have officially been recognized as the Washington Post Tech Guild by the NLRB! In a 171-38 BLOWOUT vote, we voiced loudly that our union is important to us. That's 81%!

When CEO & Publisher Will Lewis first met with Post employees, he shared that he was "a big supporter of the union."

Our ballots have been mailed and our members are voting - we urge them to listen to our own CEO and vote YES for the Tech Guild!

What solidarity! Our friends at @nytguildtech.bsky.social sent us pizza today for us to enjoy in the D.C. office. We're so grateful to have such a strong union to look up to as we work to build a more equitable, transparent, and sustainable future for all tech workers here at The Post. ✊

It's remote work week! Our members deserve flexibility in how we do our work. The Post is forcing us back into the office in June five days a week. We demand the right to keep remote work.

Here is why remote work is important to us:

Today we delivered a letter on ground rules for our upcoming union election to Jay Kennedy, head of labor relations at The Post. Given The Post’s disappointing decision to refuse to voluntarily recognize our union, we are asking them to agree to basic ground rules to ensure a free & fair election

This week we're focusing on community - a key part of our union - and why it’s important to us. We are organizing together because we believe in building a community of our coworkers to engage in mutual aid and protection.
Here’s what community means to us. (1)

Hey Jeff Bezos, here's some news: The Post unions are UNITED and STRONG! ✊ @wapotechguild.bsky.social @postguild.bsky.social

Today, after @washingtonpost.com refused to recognize the tech union, workers came together to picket outside The Post's HQ. Together, we make our demands loud and clear!

Washington Post management let us know they will NOT voluntarily recognize our union and are refusing to meet with Tech Guild leaders about election details. This is unacceptable.

Today, we held a picket in partnership with our Post Guild colleagues to demand that the company listen to us.

Yesterday, Washington Post technology employees delivered our petition to form the Washington Post Tech Guild to Post management and held a rally outside The Post's D.C. office. We are urging the company to voluntarily recognize our union and begin bargaining with us immediately.
