Elon Musk is a classic, if particularly dangerous, case here. The dude was literally given a costed plan for using his billions to end world hunger, and spent the money instead on buying a social media platform he could turn into his personal online open mic night for his edgelord comedy stylings.

"That statement on resigning at great personal cost on a position of deeply-held humanitarian principle was just so *cringe*" is a take just so viciously, gleefully devoid of empathy or humanity. I remain of the opinion a big part of why we're where we are is how much we're told decency is uncool.

i'm finicky about music so i don't stream & still buy everything. i spend way more time with full LPs/EPs than singles & there's a whole listening intake process to make sure it all gets a fair shake. every album gets minimum 5 listens & one is always sitting with lyrics like i did in high school.🧵
i’m cruising through some of the last records i planned to buy this year (i think i’m gonna fall short of 100 things through my weird listening process but not by much) and either i have been incredibly lucky or it’s been *such* a fucking good year for music.

not streaming is partly an "i like giving musicians money" thing & partly a "i fucking hate spotify" thing & partly a "i'm a nerd who pays more for 24/96" thing but mainly a “there are too many things & i want to be able to really chew on stuff" thing. i'd lose focus. nothing would get enough love.🧵

This is also why you can't just run an election on healthcare costs and hope they don't bring up immigration. You have to fight them on immigration because they inject this Nazi shit into everything.
The White House getting in the Christmas spirit by blaming the most vulnerable members of society for the suffering Trump is responsible for.

Jesus would have hated these people.

Compare the statement about the antisemitic terror attack in Australia by the Israeli Prime Minister with the one by Zohran Mamdani, and ask yourself who more truly cares about condemning antisemitism, as opposed to using it to promote unrelated politics.

i am fascinated by how nate silver turns everything he doesn’t like into a bespoke ideology. it’s not that he is annoyed by HCR, it is that she is a dreaded “ism” responsible for everything he doesn’t like about the democratic party. same with bluesky.
what the fuck are you talking about man

Yes she's just outsourcing a desire for vengeance, but it occurs to me: believing God handles justice and therefore you don't have to worry about justice yourself is a convenient thing to believe when you're involved in a political movement that deliberately promotes, creates, and spreads injustice
this is the cringiest shit I've ever seen

It requires no great soul-searching to condemn Chomsky for his friendship with Epstein (a friendship that started after Epstein’s 2008 conviction). It doesn’t mean Noam isn’t a great linguist & thinker — it just means he’s also a piece of shit.

so, this right here? this is one of the absolutely most lawless, brazenly unconstitutional impeachable offenses ever committed by any president other than trump in the history of our country.

like, this is an open and shut case. and it's a case which targeted *republicans.*
This should be the biggest story in the country right now. The sitting US President was extorting state lawmakers from his own party by threatening to withhold public money if they didn’t gerrymander for him.

I don’t know how else to say it…

This. This was the formative event of my generation & our entire politics in 🇺🇸. The structural break after which we were no longer a full democracy, when 5 Wizards In Robes decided they were a super-legislature & counting all the actual votes didn’t matter. The rest has been 25 years of commentary.
25 years ago today, SCOTUS elected George W Bush president of the United States by blocking completion of a voting canvass in Florida. A subsequent canvass by the Associated Press showed that Bush's rival, Al Gore, had won the race in Florida—and thus the contest for the presidency—by 700 votes.
