I worked round there at the time. It struck me the funniest thing about the Comedy was that it was running a series of seriously not at all funny Pinter plays. So maybe he had a point.
Perfect Tom Stoppard story from DTel obituary:

His response to a letter from Harold Pinter canvassing support for a proposal to have the Comedy Theatre in London rechristened the Pinter Theatre, “Have you thought, instead, of changing your name to Harold Comedy?”

Sky is currently running an ad for Simplicity Cremations, and it is insanely bad on so many levels. A folk duo sings “Simplicity Cremations, way to go, way to go…” repeatedly. Then the ‘audience’ cheers wildly. A cheery night at the folk club was had by all.

This one seems to have got a lot of people who don't like cars very het up. They're arguing "well fine, fit them with trackers, why should drivers get away with speeding etc". This is a COLLOSAL mistake, and a perfect example of how you really need to think about unintended consequences first. 🧵
Year one: "We can work it out as an estimate"
Year two: "Oh, look, lots of people are dodging the system!"
Year three: "We need to fit mandatory trackers to every car in the country."
Year four plus: "Why shouldn't tracker data be used in evidence? What have people got to hide?"
I don’t think think “estimated road use” is right approach - at the least drivers should have the *option* of getting a black box fitted that just tracks their EVs usage, but come on, Mel, impersonate a serious politician!

Genius stuff from a Camden proposal: “make all approaches to the junction single lane in order to reduce the risk of drivers changing lanes.” Well, “remove” is the word they’re searching for here, but who knew a right turn lane at junctions was a killer?
