Very troubling news coming out of the City of Vancouver. If the story is true, a horrible decision. This is the department that has been working on initiatives around green buildings, sea level rise, ecological restoration, reducing carbon emissions... and a host of other important initiatives.
SCOOP: Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is planning to eliminate the city's sustainability and climate department under the guise of a push to prevent increases to property taxes in his proposed 2026 budget.
Great source work by Marc Fawcett-Atkinson to uncover this

An intriguing new public art project on the #ArbutusGreenway. Check it out!
Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday for an artist-led walking tour of 'Ripples,' a series of billboards that show supply chain data represented as public art. It was heartening to see members of the public interacting with Gavin Fridell's research and Sydney Hart's artist interpretation.

And one of our favourite quotes/calls to action: "There is an urgency to make our public spaces places people want to be... Messiness provides an opportunity for people to 'speak their needs.'"
"Having a city that can accommodate messiness is a sign of urban health." Within this, public spaces can be a place of "positive friction" and an opportunity to "deliver on the promise of empathy."

Sidewalks along key stretches of Robson Street have been widened - providing a more generous environment for people walking and rolling. The street feels more comfortable as a result, with less lanes for cars and more lanes for public life (and amenities like this rain garden).
