Purveyor of extended vocal techniques on the radio: country yodels, khöömei, Xhosa throatsinging, Yma Sumac glassbreakers, avant garde weirdness, backcountry eeephing, beatboxing &tc &tc. Listen on demand: http://wfmu.org/playlists/VF
I'll be on a secret jojking mission infiltrating a not-to-be-named Arctic islet, so today I won't be able to bring you the throatsinging, konnakol, auctioneering, yodeling, umngqokolo, juutzlis &tc that you rely on me for. Kendraplex's weekly Freaking Out episode will cover Vocal Fry in my stead!

Sound Poetry Extravaganza tonight!

"Sound poetry" makes it seem fancy. It's crazy sounds that aren't quite words & aren't quite not words. From the Dadaists of the original Cabaret Voltaire to John Giorno's echoing slogan-riddled rants, @wfmu.bsky.social's got you covered!

Music is basically a detective novel where the musicians are the suspects/criminals, the listener is the detective and of course the music is the crime. The listener tries to determine what happened and what was the motivation, while the musicians try to obscure this, so they can get away with it.

Don't be fooled into unnecessary cooperation with the oppression of your own community. Be vigilant and offer as little as possible within the law whenever you encounter a @wfmu.bsky.social DJ.

Singer Viv Corringham visits Vocal Fry @wfmu.bsky.social tonite. Besides improv in jazz & rock formats, Viv does "soundwalks" - close listening to her environment & singing along, leading to many immersive recordings. Viv will chat, share varied recordings, & do a performance.
