Gary Trudeau is from my hometown. We got this original Doonesbury comic as a gift for my dad, a devout gun nut.
Doonesbury comic shows older man in night robe yelling down the stairs at communists who have invaded his home to eat his food in the middle of the night. He tells his son to bring his "favorite handgun," which the kid does, saying "I flicked the safety off for you." The man then shoots down the stairs and the communists flee because he is "exercising his constitutional rights" and his "legally obtained teflon bullets" are piercing their bulletproof vests.

Dan with "the party-throwing legend with purple fur and a heart of gold" who, when he "isn’t hugging his friends or drinking shakes," is "skateboarding or dancing" on the island bearing his name: Grimace Island. Grimace is a large, purple, rotund being of indeterminate species with short arms and legs. He is known for his slow witted yet optimistic demeanor. Grimace sometimes goes for long periods of time without speaking; when he does speak he is known for saying "duh" before every sentence.

Brought my newsboy license and my new beach towel down to the shore of the Delaware to spend the afternoon on a tiny island with no name I've been able to find.
