Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

Yet another unique way to stimulate cellular immunity against cancer.

“Using the gut immune system to induce cellular immunity is a unique approach,” Shirakawa notes. “And it should be very easy to extend it to other antigen proteins and also infectious diseases.”

Inducing immunity against cancer via the gut
Could a microbe that can smuggle antigens into the immune system of the gut provide a simple way to treat cancers?

It's also extremely funny how every #f1 driver looks like they are being held hostage during post-race show interviews/events.

In honor of Larry Summers, I asked the female members of my college class (1987) to say if they had any experiences with sexual harassment by teachers/professors, back when this was tolerated as, I dunno, the cost of attending college, and OH MY GOD.

But those are still much better problems to have! You may hate cryptocurrency but it’s really accelerated our progress in being able to secure and manage keys. Nothing solves a security problem like piles of money and constant free red teaming done by North Korea.

Pope Leo really knew what he was doing when he named himself after Leo XIII. He was setting himself up to use technology to meet the masses where they are.
He said "Amen" straight into the drop

Lmao Pope Leo threw a rave for an archbishop's 75th birthday this is kind of incredible

What do you mean the 750 page sci-fi novel I'm reading ends mid-story on an absurd cliffhanger

I love being a sponsor guiding someone though step 4. I get to tell them that if they're terribly aware of their defects, they're doing it right. No need to worry about fixing them right now, that's what 6 and 7 are for.

Step 4 is just about becoming aware.

authors you have the chance to do the funniest thing right now
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

I am busy being feline furniture.

Technically closest to a cat kotatsu. The cat is sleeping underneath my down blanket.

She has been demanding this every night. Then I get my husband to wait on me because I'm stuck being furniture.

The point isn’t that people were ever calm and wise, it’s that the systems around us used to dampen emotional spikes, now they amplify them. Human nature is constant, but the information architecture is different, and that shift matters politically.

Late night hot takes in fantasy literature:

Piranesi was not for me. I found it boring. Descriptions of statues that have nothing to do with the plot. People who like it gush about "gorgeous prose" dawg it was meandering. Pointless. Could've been a short story.
