They know what they say is untrue, they do not care it is untrue.

The media know that what they repeat is untrue, they do not care it is untrue.

Their supporters know what they are told is untrue, they do not care it is untrue.

Telling the truth is not enough, unless people care about the truth.

the European mission to Greenland was fourth in the BBC news running order this morning, which feels a bit like doing a light "and finally..." item about the archduke's motorcade taking a wrong turn in Sarajevo

Things I recommend a very great deal:

1. These eel-flavoured potato chips.

2. Getting off the internet. I've done without it for 3 days and it has been glorious. I'm starting to think the internet was a BIG mistake.

Hey people still at the BBC - is this true please?
BBC journalists have been banned from describing the kidnapped Venezuelan leader as having been kidnapped.

The BBC News Editor has sent this to BBC journalists.

I‘m with Craig there. I tried to learn Argentine tango for about 2 years - it is v complex but it is NOT repeat not a ballroom tango. It’s all about spontaneous following and leading. It is not flamenco. It is not paso. #strictly

Day 2 of attempting to contact HMRC on the phone (too complicated for their online alternatives) and yes, they're STILL playing the same 12-second loop of hold music. How fabulous.
December 5, 2025 at 10:01 AM
HMRC doesn't appear to have an account here, which is just as well; otherwise I would be protesting v loudly at their decision to play THE SAME TWELVE SECONDS OF HOLD MUSIC repeatedly for (checks phone) 25 minutes and counting. That hurts even more than their erroneous tax grab (reason for call).

A most excellently written post by the BBC's Colin Paterson on Scotland, football and a disobedient digit www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
'Scotland qualifying for the World Cup put me in hospital'
The BBC's entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson needed surgery after a mishap ahead of Scotland's World Cup qualifying game.

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

A lot of sharp analysis around the unnecessary crisis at the BBC, caused essentially by a political attack from those supposedly with the BBC’s interests at heart. This is particularly good at taking the UK/US perspective www.cjr.org/the_media_to...

The BBC can retrieve something from this mess (and show US broadcasters what a spine is) by sending Donald Trump a four letter response: “See you in court!” www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/...
The four-word message the BBC should send Trump about his $1bn lawsuit
The corporation must show it will not be cowed, unlike American broadcast media, and call the president’s bluff

Not least that, more often than not, the Lancs/Yorks t' is silent. Eg' I'm going up t'shop' sounds like 'I'm going up shop' with a very faint glottal something before 'shop'.
Always eye-opening when someone with a southern English accent tries to write a northern English accent "phonetically" revealing what an alien perspective they have of the relationship between sounds and letters

Unlike in the Other Place, is it possible here to be appalled at the Manchester synagogue attack and believe that the government of Israel is waging a campaign of genocide in Gaza? It really shouldn't be too difficult to hold both those views at the same time. Why equate British Jews with Netanyahu?

Is there a reason I ask that the Times are using a picture of asylum seekers in a boat to describe rules for migrants who came on legal routes such as skilled worker visas for doctors?
Tough new conditions to be imposed on migrants who want to settle in the UK will not apply to more than a million people who arrived in the UK under the post-Brexit immigration surge
Labour’s tough new rules will not apply to migrants already in UK

I’ve noticed a huge drop off in engagement recently on BlueSky around EU, Brexit and Freedom of Movement.

Can you help resharing things?

Has anyone else noticed that?
