I misread this image so badly that I can only really hope to illustrate what I saw.

( Also a good excuse for an #art study )

Not kidding when I say they should fund the free buses by actually enforcing driving and parking rules. Walk around any neighborhood of NYC for an hour and you will witness ~30 ticketable offenses. Everyone will get around faster if people follow the rules. Iron-fist it. Cameras on every stoplight.

y'know, if tech companies weren't so fired up to call every single thing "AI" it would be a lot easier to distinguish "ML spam filter that is well-sandboxed and tuned on your emails" from "giant context and IP-eroding foundation model that makes people paranoid and unhappy"
since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.
The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

selling a plugin that's just a waveshaper preset for $160 msrp in 2025 is not great but i guess maybe the knowledge and experience you need to pick that preset is worth that much. using a bunch of buzzwords and deliberately avoiding saying that it's just a waveshaper makes that price a scam though

Holy shit, just learned about the typewriter art of Montserrat Alberich Escardívol, a Catalan typist. Using an extra wide typewriter and 180 color ribbons, she built up elaborate images from simple characters like 'm' and '.' and ';'. Here is her typewritten painting of the Cathedral of Barcelona.

29 long years have passed since I founded the emulation archive, Zophar's Domain, on 11.9.96. To this very day, the site still stands as a testament to an era that never actually disappeared but continues to live in the hearts of retrogamers all over the word. Emulation Forever!

it's so frustrating how basically everyone working on technology "innovations" these days believes that we only think with words and that we only perceive the world with our eyes

It wasn't deep. It didn't have much to say. But Xiao Xiao inspired millions to try Flash animation for themselves.

A Beijing artist made this series -- and turned stick fights into a phenomenon. We're exploring why and how he did it:

one of the most annoying things about youtube is non-optional auto-translation of everything on a page to your selected language and defaulting auto-dubbing to "on". It's practically a low-key insistence that no other languages exist. anyway I tried this extension to stop that bs n it seems to work

watching someone perform with a laptop or a bunch of synths/keyboards is uniquely boring because just about every other instrument has the visually interesting part facing the audience, or at least decorates the part facing the audience

thank you to the people who upload classical music recordings to youtube with a tasteful amount of compression so that you can actually hear the quiet parts when you're not listening on a dedicated home hifi system in a quiet house with your full attention
