Someone recently told me I should study something more relevant, and with more contemporary applications than the history of eugenics.

So the official position of the white supremacist government is, unsurprisingly, that “race is a biological reality.”

Apparently, not believing this is “insane.”

Important to note that for fascists, ALL the identity categories (race, sex, etc.) have to be “real” and frozen so they can manage them

A lovely group of students and I have been working very hard to bring this conference to life. Please share with your academic circles!

53 pages in. It's starting to feel like a hot pile of dumpster trash, which I think means we're almost there.
I'm 26 pages into my thesis and the reality of how long it's going to be is starting to set in. In other news: I will be doing a PhD next year

The snow is back and I've got a terrible cold but don't worry guys, I got the jumbo box.

Celebrated the part of my personality I'm most annoying about.

There is a method to my madness.
I have not yet been able to access it, but I know it's there.

Your first draft doesn't have to be perfect. But mine does. And if it's not I might die.

My new vibe for the foreseeable future is "summer in Europe" and I'm not mad about it.

ME: *writing in my journal with the sole aim of pissing off future historians and archaeologists* I returned to my home - which is built in the usual style - by the normal way, and prepared and ate dinner in the way I often but not always do

Get you an academic support system so good it makes your impostor syndrome go away and pushes you to apply for a PhD. #irishstudies #history

"But being Irish, and superstitious, we touch wood" - Emily Murphy in a letter to A. W. Coone of California.

I've been struggling to find hints of Murphy's Irishness and what it meant to her in her life and work, but it is appearing as a constant undertone on her personal correspondences.

I've had an amazing time in Edmonton working on my research but the best part was popping over to Calgary for the weekend and watching my friend living his absolute dream as the executive chef of an amazing restaurant 🥹 (being fed was also very nice)

Material collection from the archives is done ✅
Now time to painstakingly sort through all of it!

The most unrealistic part of this Christmas movie isn't that two strangers are falling in love. Or even the fact that everyone in town is REALLY into Christmas. It's that these two middle class American families can each afford private hospital rooms that could fit a family of six.

@janegvmcgaughey.bsky.social I see some awesome work coming out of these archives.
And so it begins!

Folks, I fear the undergrads simply cannot be helped.

Last Friday, the 2024 Ann Saddlemyer Public Lecture was given by Dr. Emer O'Toole, Associate Professor of Irish Performance Studies, in the School of Irish Studies' McEntee Reading Room where 'she-beast' educated the overflowing audience on colonialism and the extinction of wolves in Ireland.#EduSky
