Yesterday we heard that our grant to help federal agencies become more effective and efficient at identifying and stopping labor trafficking has been terminated, effective immediately, with no reason other than it not aligning with current federal priorities . 🧵

Unfortunately I got the same one...
I am at a loss for words. This is devastating to so many people working to improve our Public safety systems.
Did I read my email right? Did #NIJ #NationalInstituteofJustice just cancel all previously posted Notices of Funding?

In other words, all federal funding opportunities through this DOJ program for #criminaljustice, #policing, & other related research has been canceled?

Really nice paper - when you mix generative AI and perverse incentives in academia, you risk decreasing research quality and stifling researcher development. 🧪

It's telling to see junior (fragile!) academics call for caution about practices that may shape their career for the worse.

I came across the proof assistant, @leanprover, for solving/teaching proofs today, and WOW! I'm excited about teaching proofs in the future.

Has anyone in #ORMS tried it?
#Mathematics folks, do you think other fields can currently use Lean for teaching & solving proofs?

I read an #orms paper today that referred to people w/ substance use disorder as "diseased" throughout the text😣 When in doubt use person-first language, see attached. Also, read papers outside your field to be well versed in other areas' word choices. https://journals.lww.com/journaladdictionmed...
