These days, you have to look twice when you see a pic where some occupier kills civilians. It might be from the US, not Ukraine.

Lots of talk again about China, the US, and Russia dividing the world into spheres of influence. One problem with this idea is that after 30 years of trying, Russia's sphere is limited to Belarus, Georgia, and 20% of Ukraine. Another is that if China has a sphere, it includes Russia.

With Maduro in prison, the war on drugs is won. There will be no more drugs in the US.

Where we are now:
- Russia: illegally attacked Ukraine
- The US: illegally attacked Venezuela
- China: Nothing. So far.
- Europe: "Can't we all be friends?"
- Denmark, Greenland, Canada, Cuba, Mexico, Baltics, Finland, Sweden, Taiwan: Argh

Das Gewaltverbot gilt auch, wenn man dem illegitimen Potentaten eines anderen Staates keine Träne nachweint. Man kann (und sollte) beides ablehnen: Maduro und das Verhalten der USA.

For nonlawyers, it’s worth noting that statements like this have—as a formal matter—important legal effects as a matter of international law. If such statements are *not* made, and in volume, future arguments that Trump’s invasion sets a legal precedent will stand on much firmer legal ground.
Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide: "International law is universal and binding for all states. The American intervention in Venezuela is not in accordance with international law."

Maduro was a brutal ruler, it’s true. So is Putin—who Trump supports. So was Bolsonaro, who Trump supports. So was the drug-trafficking former head of Honduras, who Trump just pardoned. So is Nayib Bukele in El Salvador. MBS. Bibi.

Stop pretending Trump cares about illegitimacy or brutality.

Perhaps now people will stop wishcasting about the US military refusing illegal orders. That's not a thing that happens. The 100% compliance rate with using civilian boats for target practice was a bit of a tell.

Btw, the big story overhanging all of this is that US government is deadly serious in its stated plans to dominate and control the western hemisphere. Take the threats against Greenland very seriously indeed.

Once again:
This is functionally equivalent to - & equally illegitimate - as Russia invading Ukraine. As @nicholasgrossman.bsky.social notes: "the US wasn’t attacked by Venezuela, someone based in Venezuela, or anyone else. There’s no self-defense argument, and the US didn’t even try for UNSC authorization."
The US is at war with Venezuela.

No Congressional authorization, no public debate, no clearly stated goal, no casus belli, and a gradual ramp up rather than big opening, so many haven’t noticed (or deny it). But this attack removes the ambiguity.

US is at war with Venezuela. With no end in sight.

Let´s admit: Nobody in the US will stop this.
