This is actually great for trait-based analyses... @bobohara.bsky.social
#gllvm can now handle multiple response types at the same time (different data types for different species; presence-absence and counts, or counts and overdispersed counts, counts and biomass, ..., for example), thanks to a massive coding exercise by Jenni Niku!

OK, #gllvm now finally provides an se.fit option in the prediction function, to get simulated confidence intervals.

This was a 5-years old request that should have probably been picked up sooner or later, but better late than never?

There you have it folks, MCMC is hell.
Yep. I do sometimes go to MCMC but mainly because I find it easier to diagnose the problems. Mainly because I’ve been through that hell enough times

Unfortunately, I think I've already reached my conference quotum for next year. Someone should really go and convince the vegetation crowd that model-based ordination is the One True Way #GLLVM
The website for the 68th Annual Symposium of the International Association for Vegetation Science has been launched:

Many thanks to Borja Jiménez-Alfaro and his colleagues for this invitation.
See you in June in Gijón, on the northern coast of Spain.

#gllvm is constantly evolving and expanding, so Pekka Korhonen wrote a paper demonstrating new features in the package since Niku et al. 2019.

We've already been working on even more features, so I suppose eventually a 3.0 paper will have to follow... 🙃
gllvm 2.0: fast fitting of advanced ordination methods and joint species distribution models
Background Over the past decade, joint species distribution models (JSDMs) and model-based ordination have emerged as powerful tools for the analysis of community ecology data. Generalized linear late...

Congratulations to my student, Maggie Ma, for publishing her first #rstats package {ggincerta} on CRAN 🥳

Spatial uncertainty visualisation (bivariate, pixel, exceedance, glyph), like {Vizumap}, but fully integrated with ggplot2 -- a much simpler API with all the advantages of the ggplot2 system.

Oh look @bobohara.bsky.social a statistical analysis of species richness. If only someone had written an article about the issues with doing that...
In our new article led by Gabriele Midolo, published in Ecology Letters, we show that plant species richness in European plant communities generally decreased between the 1960s and 1980s. However, since the 1990s, this trend seems to have stopped or even reversed.
