If you don't get our newsletter, this reflection 'in ashes and hope' was shared with the Urban Monastic community today. May it help you reflect and prepare for Ash Wednesday and this season of Lent we will share together.
In Ashes and Hope - Urban Monastic
For the simplicity of abstaining from something is an invitation to rest within the presence of our God. That same tenderness and gentleness is a balm that heals our ability to hope. I need that bal...

It continues to be a Magnificat kind of day.

A friend messaged me this morning that his friend found a photo of me from last October - posted to Reddit this week. Kind of wild, and it's a pretty good photo! The photographer was kind enough to let me use them, and even sent me the full res versions!

It took a little (lot) longer than we wanted, but all of our 2025 Christmas cards/prints are now in the mail and on their way!

Starts in two hours and you can replay it anytime afterwards!
It's hard to believe that it is already (and only just now) the last day of January. This means our February gathering is tomorrow!

We'll pray vespers, share the Eucharist, and have a conversation about loving God with our whole selves.

Join us live or watch later - and may the Lord bless you.

I love a good walk. There is something so wonderful about moving through the world on foot. The slowness allows me to slow down amidst the fullness of my life. I always feel behind. I cannot remember the last time I made one of my self-imposed deadlines.

Our very own @paul.urbanmonastic.org is hosting the final two sessions this Saturday! They are early & late here in Paris, so it's easier for you to join where you are! Each conversation is on how the three pieces of our foundations work together (and what these are). Lots of good feedback so far!
We are hosting over a dozen Up Close events this month to share and discuss our Vows and Common Life before we hope to finalize them in February. We deeply value and need your presence at any one of them to help us (each will cover the same content).

The zoom info is in our Newsletter (or DM us).

It's a really good way of life. You should read it and let it invite you into a better way of living with your neighbors, yourself, and our God.
As the US Government continues to ramp up its use of violence against its own citizens, there is another way. Let's reject violence and not kill. It's easy.

ICE should try it. This is chapter 26 from the Urban Monastic Way of Life. Unfortunately, I suspect it will always be topical.
Reject Violence and Do not Kill - From Our Way of Life - Urban Monastic
Throughout the history of monasticism, our ancestors have not fought. They rejected violence, even when it meant their own death. The monastic tradition we are a part of is unwavering in its rejection...

Let us pray. Saint Anthony, intercede for us.
God, You called blessed Abbot Anthony to solitude in the desert of Egypt. Within the ruins of empire, Your grace brought him through a profound conversion of life. †
