From a journalist friend: Just spreading the word. The CDC is purging data, so people should archive their favorite CDC datasets today, namely ones around race/ethnic diversity, LGBTQ, and reproductive health. Also health data involving climate. The youth risk behavior survey has already gone down.

I gifted my son (8) a regular version Rush Hour puzzle game for Christmas. Yesterday he taught the rules to his little sister, and she is now obsessed. She has solved all the beginner puzzles and is now solving the intermediate puzzles better than me. 😅 She is a Kindergartener.

We polished off our second holiday craft project yesterday -- a nutcracker made from cardboard boxes! My kids got really into this shared project! They did all the painting and most of the decorating. ❤️

A neighbor was giving away a few white lanterns on Buy Nothing, so this morning we picked it up and did our first holiday craft project! 😍 (5yo and I, while my husband and son were out at a sports bar watching soccer.)

I really want people to understand this because the intersection of education and healthcare with disability rights is VERY IMPORTANT and impacts millions. There is a huge spectrum of disability that children experience and if you want a functioning society, you better start giving a shit.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) guarantees students with disabilities the right to a public education with access to specialized instruction and accommodations. Without the oversight of the Dept of Education, disabled students are at risk of losing their right to an education.

I say holding opposing views because I think both are true: that boys and men are struggling AND this country does not protect women/queer folks/folks of color. Here is a perspective shared by Junot Diaz: www.bostonglobe.com/2024/11/13/o...

Democrats have barely acknowledged how much American men are struggling.

To help me hold opposing views, I like to consume varying perspectives. I knew that the ladies on We Can Do Hard Things would be willing to have a hard conversation post election, and yesterday I listened to it. Two of them are gay (Abby Wambach and Glennon Doyle) and one of them is a long time

On top of "What do I want my students to learn?" I also ask myself "What do I want my students to experience?"

For today's class, I had students go outside and measure heights and shadows to talk about similar triangles.

My thoughts are with students who, through no fault of their own, strive for an education amid uncertain doom.

I wish more of us heard how students think of their learning as a pathway to making a better world than we have, here and abroad.

For educators, that's something worth fighting for. Now.
