Not just a university restructure but a coastal town losing its future.

Rally tomorrow, 12–1pm, The Forum, Elmer Square, Southend (SS1 1NS).

Be there.
‘If I think about what this means, I want to cry’: what happens when a city loses its university?
When Essex University’s Southend campus opened, it was a message of hope for a ‘left behind’ UK seaside town. Its closure will be felt far beyond its 800 students, some of whom will not get their degr...

Since the banks crashed the economy real wages have gone down by £11,000. And yet Labour’s Budget chose to tax workers. Billionaires and the super-rich got off lightly. 1/2

The UK is abandoning the discovery science that future innovation depends on

Apparently the plan for “growth sectors” is to cut fundamental physics and hope innovation just .… happens

It's betting on AI while hollowing out the science it depends on

A growing gap in pay is emerging at Cambridge University with an elite of high earners and the rest

The total amount paid to senior figures earning in excess of £150,000 has increased from £7 million in 2019 to £37 million in 2025

Divide Cambridge University staff into two groups: top 50 earners ('Golden 50') & everyone else

Since 2019, inflation-adjusted pay is up ~10% for the Golden 50 but down ~10% for rest

Senior pay rises are funded by falling pay elsewhere

It's systematic transfer of money from the many to the few

“This is the second time in less than two years that this government has denied 50s-born women the pension justice they are rightfully owed.
It is a disgraceful decision. This government needs to reflect on its treatment of #WASPI women. and change course.”

Let's not forget that this dispute is about Birmingham bin workers losing up to £8,000 of their pay.

The negotiations in this dispute have been a shambles, in actual fact there have been none since July 2025, and this Labour government is right at the heart of it!
