Almost half of South Sudan's counties are expected to face emergency levels of food insecurity by May this year - double the number recorded in December 2025.

The IPC’s updated analysis for Gaza showing a reduction in people facing famine conditions is a welcome step, reflecting limited increases in food availability.

But it must not be misread as a sign the crisis is over. Hunger in Gaza remains at catastrophic levels.

Over 50,000 Congolese refugees have fled to Burundi this December, many in critical condition.

IRC Burundi Director Amadou Ali said: "Families are sleeping under tarpaulins, without food, safe drinking water or blankets. The situation requires urgent support."
