hello if I am following you do not have to follow me back

unless you really want to hear progressive jewish takes and see low quality photos of birds of prey, then have at it
The obligatation-follow-back etiquette is weird to me, regardless of followers. People should follow folks whose posts they think will add value to their feed and not take it personal if that isn't the case. I post a lot of niche stuff, so I totally get if those I follow do not care about that shit.
This is a really good article on whistle printing networks, whistle distribution, and the value of whistles for not just safety, but for community.
This whistle fights fascists
I print whistles now. You can too.

A reminder for myself as much as anyone:

You cannot attempt a good faith discussion with someone who has done the mental calculus for who they are willing to throw into the volcano and has already formulated justification on why it's okay to do so. That isn't a human that responds to reason.

I've been teaching myself to linocut. I'm not great at either drawing or carving, and I'm bad at printing. That said, I do like how this one came out. The quote is from folk singer Pete Seeger. Guthrie's "this machine" quote is more famous, but Seeger's version always strongly resonated with me.

Last week, there were coordinated mass walkouts of high schools across the country to protest ICE. I just want to share my experience because I am really fucking proud of the kids:

(originally I was gonna keep it on the DL but since I keep seeing it on social media, seems it's regular news by now)

Tonight begins Tu B'Shvat. To me, it is a day remind ourselves to be responsible stewards for the natural world around us, and to always appreciate it and what it provides. I adore this print that I have by Wendy Elisheva Somerson, which is why I share it every year on this day.

banning prisoners from reading materials is deeply fucked up. they already deal unfairly with heavy restrictions on what they can read.

I thought I was being sooooo smart locking Sammy & Storm in a bedroom while I baked cookies, but I stepped away from the kitchen for <1m and came back to find Miss Odette's face buried in my cookie batter.

She is 15yo with severe arthritis; I'm surprised she made it on the kitchen counter!

If any of y'all looking for a fun game to try out, this deckbuilder is in public play test now and worth the short time it takes to install it. The art is cute and the mechanics are interesting and unique.

(I originally signed up for a test back in June of last year according to Steam)
Burn With Me on Steam
Burn With Me is a narrative deckbuilder in which you drag your students into forbidden rituals, uncover haunting personal stories, and descend into stylish, surreal dread.

If you're mad because people only started to give a shit when white Americans are killed, that's fair. But there's some (long winded) hope in this arc playing out to ruminate on:

The Sandwich can't get eat the bin bags on our new kitchen trash, so instead he just does this constantly.

(that said, he did catch the lid again last night while I was cooking and I once again found him INSIDE the can, snacking in the garbagey darkness)

Years ago, I read an article about a town in India that brought in "bigger, more aggressive monkeys" to deal with their current monkey problem, which had the predictable outcome. It became my shorthand for "fix a problem by making it worse."

This is quite literally bigger, more aggressive monkeys.
Public safety means stopping violent crime — not weaponizing ICE against our communities.

That’s why I'm proposing a bill that redirects nearly $75 billion from ICE to local law enforcement.
