Hello! I'm from the west coast of Canada where the mountains meet the sea. I think I most resemble Angela Carter in feature blended with Clive Barker in style.

A good man did a bad thing for the right reasons. Mostly.

Okay, it was murder.
But it was to ease someone's pain.
Okay, maybe a teeny bit of vengeance too.
But it was to keep them from hurting anyone else.
Okay, it might have been mostly vengeance.
For a good cause!

I originally considered this to be the most villainous or the worst but changed my mind at the last minute. Sometimes good acts are morally complex. Sometimes villains make the best decisions.

So come on. Spill. Maybe just mention them as Character X if you don't want to spoiler

The house. I can't control that.

If it was something inside me, I cling to the notion that it's still me, even if it's me+entity. I think about all the times they appeal to the person, urging them to fight the whatever, and I, perhaps foolishly, believe I could.

Sometimes we forget that we are, to an extent, what we write. Especially horror authors. So now you can face your own fear. Which one are you preferring?

I have a villain whose best quality (my favourite, anyhow) is that she has no dark arc. There is nothing which put her on this path, and she's very good at what she does. Unfortunately she died for a while so she's become quite unhinged. There are no guardrails anymore.
#HorrorWritersChat is the one time I really regret having the alt text prompt on...
More villain stuff. We all have a favourite most scary antagonist. I don't make that many, but then, I'm a fan of humanity being the bad guy. What about you?

Hallo #HorrorWritersChat! It's been a while.
I am Trish, and I write creepy weird silly eldritch-y ghost-y stuff a lot of the time. My villain origin story would be pretty boring, I think. I'm terrible at being bad. I might be an inadvertent villain though. Perhaps I sow mayhem without knowing it?

I know a lot of people are boycotting Amazon, which is great, but it's hurting a lot of trans authors.

Trans authors: Drop links to your NON-AMAZON book listings/storefronts.

Cis people: Repost, boost, and, importantly, buy. Part of boycotting an evil corporation is supporting the alternatives.

Gasping and throttled, its voice made my skin crawl. I wanted to hide, to bury myself in the bedclothes, but fear kept me immobile. The words uttered in a whispery slither weren't a warning, but a reminder of a half-forgotten promise made without any consideration of consequence.

Go on then my lovely horrorlings. What are you going to do with this? Did you think the redemption one was the doozy? Ah I'm irredeemable. I am I am.

This is tough because unrepentant monsters are my favourite.

I do have a character in the current trilogy who was a real dick and has regrets now that he's dead. Shortsightedness is never an excuse, but there may be a slim chance for a half-assed redemption.

#HorrorWritersChat
Alright. The monster that might not be a monster. We all write bad guys, and sometimes they need a good arc of sorts. What do you think?

The scariest hardest thing I've ever written is the stuff that gets closest to personal and to true. Vulnerability is terrifying and necessary.
Though the first time I murdered a character I really cared about was really difficult and I had to go for a walk afterwards.

Hello #HorrorWritersChat! My name is Trish and I write horror that doesn't always feel like horror, but when it does, it does. I like it weird, dark, and fun, with a bit of sizzle on the side.

I am definitely a pantser to the extent that I often have no idea what's happening until it does.
Welcome welcome to another #HorrorWritersChat! I am your host this evening, and therefore it will be as chaotic as usual.

But we will talk horror, and have a lot of fun, I am sure. Join in where you like, for all, or for some, and engage on other posts too. Let's build some community!

It's today, people! My turn this week to host the #HorrorWritersChat.

Four questions about you and your horror work. 7pm UK time every Wednesday, that's 2pm Eastern for those in North America.

I've written some delightfully steamy stuff, but within the current book, there's a scene with an earthquake where he pulls her into a doorway and braces his arms on either side, and it took them both a minute to notice the shaking stopped....

#HorrorWritersChat
#HorrorWritersChat question 4 (last question but stick around in ten minutes for the outro):

Friday is Valentine's Day. What's the best romance, flirting, love, or spice scene you've written?

If none, then tell us the best moment of platonic love. Quote post, don't forget to include the hashtag!
February 12, 2025 at 8:11 PM
Oooh, this one is tough. While I tend to love my characters, even the bad ones, I'm going to have to say Doggo, aka the Ancient Entity's Hellhound companion who likes to cosplay as a terrier for lolz.

#HorrorWritersChat
#HorrorWritersChat question 3:

Tomorrow is Galentine's & Palentine's Day. Of all the characters you've created, who do you think you'd be besties within real life?

Quote post, and don't forget to include the hashtag!
February 12, 2025 at 8:04 PM
Mature, well-read, mid-level Entity seeks rag-tag group of amateur sleuths of good character, living or dead, for possibly apocalyptic once-in-a-potentially-short lifetime adventure. VGSOH mandatory. Vampires or fast zombies need not apply. Safety not guaranteed.

#HorrorWritersChat
#HorrorWritersChat question 2:

Write a short book blurb in the form of a lonely-hearts column / dating profile

Quote post, and don't forget to include the hashtag!

Hallo, I'm Trish and I write whatever shows up though I lean heavy into weird, spooky, sexy, dark, and funny stories.

I love it when I unconsciously add elements which become fully realized later in the story. I rarely know where I'm going so the constant surprise is fun too.

#HorrorWritersChat
And here we are with #HorrorWritersChat question 1:

Introduce yourself: Tell us who you are, what you write, and the one thing about the writing process you love the most

Quote post, and don't forget to include the hashtag!
