34. That’s a wrap on the discussion of the SCE novellas. It was fun discussing this line of Trek novellas for the first time on #TrekBookClub. I may do this again next October. Thanks to everyone who posted, replied, reposted & liked.

Thank you everyone for participating in this past weekend's SCE discussion. I'm sorry I haven't sent out the final set of posts yet (the ones with the surveys). I will do that tonight when I'm back home. Thanks.

31. I couldn’t find any references to self-sealing stembolts (or Chateau Picard 😊). However, there were a few callbacks to earlier Trek episodes. What were some of your favorite Trek references in #STSCEColdFusion and #STSCECaveatEmptor?

I’m a big fan. The novella is almost a more natural length for stories that feel like tv episodes than the full-length novels. I’m about twenty novellas in so far. Eventually I might work through the whole series. #TrekBookClub

This was my first time reading them and they were fun! I would read more. There is enough of a story there for a full novel, but they solve the conflict pretty quickly. #TrekBookClub #STSCEColdFusion

29. What were your general thoughts about the SCE novellas? In what ways where they similar to full-length novels? In what ways were they different? Would you be interested in reading more of them?

I always thought it was interesting we never saw the "rogue computer" in the modern Trek shows. I think because in the newer era we as a society didn't fear the computer, whereas in the '60's there was concern about computers taking over. #TrekBookClub #STSCECaveatEmptor

I think it was a good ending. Now another story may blossom from it if the AI was found by a passing ship. You could have fun with all the possibilities.

The Mosada analogy was, to be honest, a bit odd and forced, but the solution was creative given the situation. It was a non-violent way to stop the problem, which is always good. #TrekBookClub

All peace and love to Kirk: Talking things to death was Kirk's forte. Of course more interesting than shooting things to death (and cheaper, too, for special effects departments). #TrekBookClub

The risk is you may not know who built the machine, what its purpose was or how it will interact with your own systems. Another big risk is, if it's used, and antiquated, there is potential of it breaking down. #TrekBookClub #STSCECaveatEmptor

Another really delightful line in this book. Validated parking does seem right in line with Ferengi modus operandi. Every time I pay $40 for stadium parking or $12 for a ballpark hotdog, I think of the Ferengi. I’m a “captive customer” 😜 #TrekBookClub #STSCEColdFusion
