New paper in Isogloss! We look at the role of ambient exposure to code-switching in the processing of contextually unattested, but syntactically licit, switches in L2 learners of Spanish. Implications for experience-based processing are discussed.

After #SMLP2025 I took a train to Prague to attend #AMLaP2025. So glad that this AMLaP was my first! Had a great time (re)connecting with everyone and learning about some really cool work being done by colleagues in Europe. Hope to come back to this conference!

Now that I’m back in GNV, I get to share all of the excitement of the last few weeks. I had the pleasure of attending this year’s Summer School on Statistical Methods for Linguistics and Psychology hosted by the University of Potsdam. Amazing theoretical discussions and lots of new friends.

Leaving #SNL2025 with new energy for research and collaboration. Thank you to Gallaudet University for hosting! We presented ongoing work on (1) the neural mechanisms of Theory of Mind in distinct language profiles and (2) language learning as an intervention for cognitive decline in healthy aging.

Follow @gracetalkslanguage.bsky.social for all things SLA, bilingualism, and cognition! Let’s continue to highlight creators doing the crucial work of science communication.
I’ll make this my inaugural post on my SciComm BlueSky — hi, I’m Grace, I’m a graduating PhD candidate from UF researching L2 sentence processing and bilingualism.

I migrated from IG and was GraceTalksLanguage on there, communicating SLA/language and Brain/bilingualism to non-expert audiences.
I follow all of the usual linguistics Tik Tok/reels/shorts and – no shade, they're excellent – but it's so dominated by things like historical linguistics/etymology/fun language facts. Gen Z needs islands, N400, and subsective adjectives on their fyp

The first moments of spring break have been spent joyously reading novels late into the night and catching up with friends under a post-storm blue sky. Let’s see whether tomorrow bodes better for the to-do list!

Yesterday I successfully defended my dissertation.

When I was 17, I learned Danish and from that point I wanted nothing more than to understand how the brain processes our second language.

What started as just one question became something so much larger. Ten years later, Dr. Grace deMeurisse!
