Det är fullkomligt obegripligt för mig att man inte ser barnen, 13-14-åringarna, som skjuter ihjäl andra, som värnlösa offer för hänsynslösa kriminella. Att vi inte kan vara eniga i detta och behandla dem som offer! Den enda förklaringen jag kan komma på är att det i regel handlar om icke-vita barn.

När jag började arbeta som journalist 2007 blev jag chockad över hur de många verkade se på uppgifter från myndigheter som generellt trovärdiga – som om inte kritisk granskning av myndighetsutövning var ett av våra viktigaste uppdrag.

Det kommer komma en dag då man skrattar åt att vi en gång delade in befolkningen i juridiska kön och lät denna bestämning organisera hela vårt samhälle och reglera saker som arbete, kärlek, begär, reproduktion och medborgarskap. åtminstone hoppas jag att det en dag kommer ha blivit skrattretande.
