Yet another lonely and lovely wander to the high point of one of the many mountain ranges in Nevada, this time it's the Garfield Hills. I'm on an aspirational quest to visit them all. Photos and video in the post.

It is often the little ones that I enjoy most. Here to map inset landforms at lava's edge, I find Brewer's Sparrows and Rock Wrens, reminders that small birds bring a calming joy and flitting beauty before the harshness of the desert day.

Spent Saturday morning with @darond.bsky.social gouging around Sandy Valley along the border of southern Nevada and southeastern California. Here are preserved some exception examples of fossil trackways, or ichnofacies, created by camels of the Late Pleistocene to Early Holocene. #geoarchaeology
