Camped in a small back-berm playette on the broad alluvial fan of Miller Canyon extending from the House Range in western Utah. The pleasures of geoarchaeological fieldwork in the Great Basin Desert -- evening skies and a juvenile Brown-headed Cowbird saying hello in the morning. Keep going.

New Fieldnotes blog at trailoption.com; wandering on Pilot Peak in central Nevada, #130. Small section of Quaternary landforms to map, but a great evening just the same. Check it out.

Off to Tularosa Basin in New Mexico this week. Supporting our National Parks and their natural science. Keep going.

Back from Antarctica, back into the Great Basin... considering my role as scientist and geographer in amazing landscapes. We can do better. trailoption.substack.com/p/waypoint-2...

I have the very good fortunate to return to Antarctica next month. So in easy motivation, I'm posting up some of my 2023 images from a trip of great adventure and great new friends. #antarctica #photography #muenchphotography #trailoption

Nevada High Point #126 - Adobe Range

This is a long outing, I am headed for fieldwork on the Old River Bed in the West Desert of Utah, but I cannot pass up a chance to check out a Nevada high point along the way.

It is often the little ones that I enjoy most. Here to map inset landforms at lava's edge, I find Brewer's Sparrows and Rock Wrens, reminders that small birds bring a calming joy and flitting beauty before the harshness of the desert day.

Spent Saturday morning with @darond.bsky.social gouging around Sandy Valley along the border of southern Nevada and southeastern California. Here are preserved some exception examples of fossil trackways, or ichnofacies, created by camels of the Late Pleistocene to Early Holocene. #geoarchaeology
