I only had 4 stories published this yr: 2 original flash pieces & 2 reprints. My originals are humorous! Not a tone I usually go for. But it was soothing to write a member of the angelic host & delightful to write an intrepid opossum. The latter is my fave this yr.

It's Straith's awards eligibility post for 2025!!

I'm putting forward two of the three stories I had published this year for your consideration. I'd love especially if you'd consider "Fishwife" for the Aurora Award for Short Fiction, since it's my mémère story 💜

On negotiating with the folks at Must Read Magazines...
On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

As we approach the end of the year, it's a great time to record things you love! Not just for the Hugo Awards, but in general. The rec sheet is a handy resource for nomination, but also at its heart a rec resource in a loud, busy media environment.

I went up to Scotland earlier in the year and took loads of photographs, and haven't processed any of them since July. Here's two of the five I've actually got to so far. Day one, a walk around Pitlochry.

ICYMI, new story this week! Last of the year (probably). Features a hot shot pilot, a retired but persistent ambulance, and snacks.
Out today, in the autumn issue of @kaleidotrope.bsky.social, my story of a space pilot dealing with her first clone resurrection, with a little help from the rescue ship's AI and several kinds of cheese.
