Let’s do this one last time. Comicsposting, shitposting, etc. I write about comics @ buttondown.email/tradespotting
And another thing- no idea if it’s proliferated on here the way it has on twitter, but the Bourdain quote about wanting to beat Kissinger to death for what he did to Cambodia has been fully absorbed into comics twitter’s repertoire of Mean Things To Say About Comics Writers and it is sickening

Comics twitter proving itself to be a real cesspool this week

Marvel releases comic that deserves criticism for poorly handling its subject matter, and the overzealous 20 year olds that make up most of that site spin that into “the writer and artist responsible are Evil and must be punished”

Crossposting this here because it has not been popping off on twitter

I went off about this on the other site last night, but Path of the Lightsaber is real deal Good Fucking Star Wars, one of the best SW comics of the Disney era. Don’t need to read or watch anything else to appreciate what it’s doing. If you like Star Wars and you like shonen manga, give it a shot

Nova Centurion #1: hard to separate my objective evaluation of this as a comic from the fact that it’s chock-full of fan service aimed squarely at me, the Annihilation mega fan, but boy oh boy was I hooting and hollering through most of this

Captain America #5: there’s a reveal in this issue that retroactively makes Ben Percy’s Red Hulk one million times better/funnier, and I assume that was coordinated between Percy and Zdarsky in the lead up to that event next year

you have to understand: Duke and Cobra Commander jump out of a car, beat the shit out of several Dreadnoks, and then they jump back INTO ANOTHER CAR, EXCEPT BEFORE DUKE WAS DRIVING AND COBRA COMMANDER WAS IN THE BACK SHOOTING AND NOW IT'S THE OPPOSITE
G.I. Joe #14: I don’t even care how you feel about Joshua Williamson, man, how can you look at what Reilly and Bellaire are doing in this issue and not pump your fist even a little bit

One World Under Doom #9: yeah I loved this. Great event from beginning to end. No notes, no complaints, just a killer character study and a wild ride from start to finish. Good Ass Shit.

Ultimates #18: there will be a time to analyze whether or not it’s even possible for this book to live up to its own political ideals, but that time can come later, this issue had me ready to run straight through a brick wall

Read the available chapters of Sonic: Blade of Courage. That the fandom is currently losing their minds glazing that thing is one of the most blatant cases of “Thing: Japan” I have ever seen

I hope Clark goes to Kandor in Man of Tomorrow to learn more about his Kryptonian heritage and the Kandorians are all Brainiac-worshipping AI chuds

Caught up on Tom Reilly/Andrea Milana’s G.I. Joe. Kinda love this comic. Direct to video action movies in comic book form. Williamson’s scripts stay out of the way- the book’s carried entirely by the artists.

Happy to report that while Ben Percy’s Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t stick the landing, his Red Hulk absolutely did

I so badly want to respect that guy’s contrarianism but unfortunately, the posts are consistently bad
I love this website.

Been like a year+ since the last time I bought an action figure, but I got a good deal on a Figuarts Luffy and man, I wish I had gotten into Figuarts sooner. This guy is so fun to pose

OG Space Jam is crass and commercial and misuses the Looney Tunes characters, but (god help me) it’s fundamentally a tighter, better constructed film than Space Jam 2, it’s got a few jokes that land, and it’s never self-serious
you know, the original SPACE JAM was not some kind of masterpiece — it wasn’t even particularly good — but it feels like SEVEN SAMURAI compared to the sequel (watching it with my kids right now)

I wrote a piece on the work of writer and director James Gunn, who is engaged in a pretty incredible ongoing enterprise that despises bigotry and authoritarianism and reaffirms patriotism for progressives. www.vulture.com/article/jame...
James Gunn’s American Project
He is few critics’ idea of a respectable auteur, but his work is more consistently progressive than any other comic-book material today.
