Actually, I Do Own A Hammer

Let’s do this one last time. Comicsposting, shitposting, etc. I write about comics @ buttondown.email/tradespotting
I’m not exaggerating when I say that damn near every couple of days I see an ostensibly leftist comic fan account compare the mistreatment of their blorbo to a real life mass bombing campaign perpetrated by the US government. And they wonder why the pros don’t really wanna hang out there anymore

Not a writer I ever wanted to have opinions about, but truly- how many times are we gonna watch this happen to people to no constructive end

On certain, rare occasions, the puriteens are like, half-right about something they’re complaining about, but they don’t have any methods for dealing with it other than blunt force. So they’ll crybully the target of their ire off the internet with death threats and nothing gets accomplished

And yes I damn near did a spit take at the reveal at the end of this issue, I can’t believe MacKay is actually tying that thread off 20 fucking years later

I wasn’t familiar with Álvaro López before this, but he’s got a very pleasant, expressive style, and Mattia Iacono’s colors do a good job making it pop without being overbearing. It’s a good looking book, like Annihilation was a good looking book

I do think this is MacKay’s best non-Moon Knight work in a long time- clean premise, a fun hooky gimmick as a source of tension (Nova having to take for-hire gigs to keep the Worldmind running, rationing his powers a bit at a time), the jokes land, the characterization is solid

This comic is dedicated to the brave Mujahideen fighters of Latveria

One of Marvel’s biggest Ls. He’s rocking the fucking house on Joe

Yeah this book is vapid and silly, but it’s facilitating some of the best action you’ll see in a direct market comic book, and I think that’s a fair trade off. I mean the two page spread in the middle of this issue, are you kidding me? Come the fuck on

Honestly can’t believe they actually got R.B. Silva to do the whole thing. A Marvel event in 2025 that had the same great artist on every single issue. Why can’t we have this all the time?

Ryan North’s done two big Doom stories in FF and both of them are about him tripping over himself and creating his own undoing out of sheer hubris. That’s that good good Doctor Doom.

Jon Bogdanove was consistently turning in crazy good work on Man of Steel through the early 90s
