By-Election Result analysis: Buckhaven, Methil and Wemyss Villages

A big SNP victory and complete Labour collapse, placing behind Reform UK on their best-yet Scottish share, followed on from the conviction of a Labour councillor
By-Election Result: Buckhaven, Methil and Wemyss Villages
Background Following hot on the heels of a Stirling by-election last week, we went a little bit further along in the same Holyrood region for Fife's Buckhaven, Methil and Wemyss Villages by-election. Unfortunately this was the third vote this term to arise from a Labour councillor being convicted on sex offences in relation to minors, in this case David Graham. He'd been a councillor since 2012, and remained formally Labour affiliated until he was convicted.

Plaid Cymru wins Caerffili for Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Congratulations to Lindsay Whittle. This is an utter disaster for Labour. Both Westminster & Senedd elections in the Caerphilly constituency have been dominated by Labour ever since Alfred Onions won back in 1918.

If Labour want nuclear to power the energy England wants, they should build the units nearer the.point of need, i.e. in England, and contaminate their own back door instead of forcing Scotland to accommodate the risk.
The discovery of 'significant' levels of decades-old nuclear waste in the Highlands highlights why Scotland must reject Labour's 'dangerous' new nuclear power plant plans, the SNP has said

If you want independence, we need to do what worked in 2011, give both votes to the SNP. Winning a few extra pro-independence MSPs by splitting the vote won’t deliver a majority government, which is essential to carry a mandate for a referendum, just like in 2011.

At the SNP conference, the WASPI campaign women recounted the long battle they have endured for pension justice with successive UK Government’s. Heart wrenching stuff.

I know all about D'Hondt.
If the same % people who voted SNP 1 & 2 in 2011 had done the same in 2021, we would have had a majority, of 65. We won 64. That one MSP would've made the difference. We could've had our 2nd referendum by now. The SNP need List MSPs too.

Since 2014, we've been forced to live through the worst of Westminster - Brexit, Boris, Truss, and no change with Labour.

Only independence offers a fresh start for Scotland.

More money in your pocket, more opportunities, fewer emissions.

I’m proud we introduced free bus travel for young people under 22 - and as of today, over 250 million free journeys have been made across Scotland.

Together with scrapping peak rail fares, we’re making your commutes cheaper.

Westminster wants Scotland to accept nuclear power stations for the same reason they site their Trident WMDs here: because they are safely far away from their core voters in the SE of England.
Ed Miliband has confirmed that a vote for Anas Sarwar to be first minister is a vote for nuclear power stations in Scotland

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland already more than meets its own annual demand through renewable energy - we don’t need dangerous and dirty nuclear energy.

How can any government justify pushing children into poverty?

It beggars belief that the UK Labour government still hasn’t committed to scrapping the cruel two-child cap.

We are doing it in Scotland - while also delivering the Scottish Child Payment, the Baby Box, and more.
