Novembers 1995 wurde Siegfried Strukmeier auf dem Heimweg im Hofgarten, Düsseldorf, von vier jungen Männern aus homofeindlichen Motiven zusammengeschlagen und durch zahlreiche Messerstiche tödlich verletzt. Homofeindliches Tatmotiv Die vier jungen Männer gingen gezielt in den Hofgarten in Düsseldorf, einem bekannten Treffpunkt für schwule Männer, mit der Absicht “Schwule zu klatschen”. Hierfür nahmen sie auch ein Messer als Tatwaffen mit. Aufarbeitung der Tat Der Mord an Siegfried Strukmeier 1995 führte in Düsseldorf zu einer intensiven Auseinandersetzung mit der Verfolgung von Homosexuellen. Es wurde eine Fachgruppe “Gewalt gegen Lesben und Schwule” beim Kriminalpräventiven Rat eingerichtet und das “Schwule Überall-Telefon” eingerichtet. 1998 wurde im Hofgarten zudem einen Notrufsäule aufgestellt, die heute aber nicht mehr steht.
