I decided that this particular passage from my #skts fic What We Didn't Become is my favorite thing I wrote in 2025
Forgiving yourself for all the things that you didn’t become, turned out to be the first step in trying again. Crossing the Rhone every day between his occasionally and nerve-wrackingly silverfish-infested 3ème Part-Dieu student apartment and the fashion school with frequent stops at Único Maître Artisan Glacier on the way for the thrill of the weirdest ice-cream flavors (the parsley cones had unexpectedly grown on him), Kiyoomi began weaving something new. Each route his feet and his trusted metro card took him on was a new loose thread on the loom, the bobbins tangling and unraveling around his legs. The Château de l'Éclair turned out to be a little while away from Lyon, one frayed loop on the otherwise sturdy selvage, his friends’ battered red Clio valiantly carting them to the vineyard through gravel on a trip he convinced them to be for wine tasting with his heavily accented French. Sipping on his second Beaujolais-Blanc, it was easy to imagine a bleached blond head here, horsing around with an identically built, but unidentically serious face. This is where you grew up. Where you learned to stand on your own. The discontinuous inlay of him emerged as the bubbling of memories carefully revealed the extra length needed for the weft beaten in, without causing any draw-in. Weft followed weft followed weft until Kiyoomi understood and knew: the unfamiliar places had been the perfect loom for him to weave his fabric new.

A feeling of anger - no, it was more like irritation - filled him. He slowly reached out, placing his hand on Gojo's jaw and caressing his cheek softly. The touch felt foreign; as many times as he'd done this before, this was not the same. Gojo had turned them both into the thing they hated the most, the sole reason of their suffering in life. There it was - the anger, slowly boiling and spilling out, forcing his hand to move. He grabbed and pulled on silver strands, making Gojo fold over and howl in pain.
