Agreement was reached in principle following discussions between Government party leaders and Tourism Minister Peter Burke.
Initially the restriction was set to cover all towns with a population of 10,000.

Cian, I am a regular visitor to Prague, with a population similar to Dublin's. There is an excellent bus service to the city, where you can get a metro or tram. Car use to the airport is very low, and public transport is never stretched. Im pro Metro North and it should have been built 30y ago

I hear you I sold my car in 2019 and use public transport and Gocar ever since. However, I cannot do without a regular air service to Europe. Yes, emissions must be reduced for air travel, but Ireland has almost zero investment in public transport. Neighbours have 4 cars, one for each. It's mad.

It's an island economy the airport is a vital link. Working in the film sector, it would not be viable without those international connections, and that's only one industry. In terms of transport, car congestion is a bigger issue. Ireland needs to quadruple its bus and rail investment. then farming

Imagine spending โฌ300m adding a new lane to the M50 and then capping it at 5,000 cars a day โ the same logic applies here. Iโm not dismissing green goals, but as an island nation our main airport is essential infrastructure.

Investing over โฌ300m in a new runway only to impose a cap makes little sense. From Limerick, I regularly take the 2.5โhour express bus to Dublin Airport, it is reliable public transport works. For perspective, Prague 1.5M operates effectively without any tram or rail link to its airport - good buses
