Latin and democratic socialist organizer from the Midwest. He/him/el.
Rob was a titan of the Milwaukee nerd community. One of the nicest, kindest people I ever met. Very sad news
Devastated to hear about Rob Wieland's passing - a wonderful, golden-hearted man, a brilliant writer and journalist, and a passionate advocate for games and the people who play and make them. Sending nothing but the utmost love and deepest condolences to his friends and family.

Been saying for a long time that there's a real base here in the Midwest for a democratic socialist politics that is relentlessly focused on building a better life for working people. Politics should be about helping people, not hating people.

Democracy Commission's package passing was one of the biggest developments at DSA convention. It was an intervention pushing DSA towards pluralism in national decision-making. I predict national leaders will need to compromise and collaborate more with each other to get things done in the future.

Indiana GOP state legislators want to redraw the map with Illinois to absorb downstate rural counties. This is an actual headline, not a Simpsons episode.

The craziest story you haven't heard of today is the MN GOP appointing a speaker in the state assembly without the votes to do it. Insane stuff

Very excited about this one! This is a DSA-led campaign that is carrying on the work that Milwaukee DSA has done on public power, housing, and public schools.

Mike Siegel won by less than 300 votes! That's another race where DSA's powerful ground game swung the whole election.
HUGE win for @mikesiegeltx.bsky.social and @austindsa.bsky.social in City Council District 7. Yesterday we saw Austin voters stand up for workers, tenants, green energy & transit, real police oversight, and a ceasefire in Palestine and Lebanon. We say: together we win!

I’d be proud to be half as successful as Emil Seidel!
Happy 160th birthday to the 1st socialist mayor of any major American city: Emil Seidel

Seidel cleaned up the corruption of his predecessor & kicked off the era of Milwaukee’s greatest prosperity (in health & wealth) under three socialist mayors for the majority of 1910 to 1960

Hopefully this saves a lot of people from a preventable, crippling disease. But maybe the GOP shouldn’t have spent the last hundred years working to “drown government in the bathtub” if they didn’t want to bring all the medieval diseases back - just a thought.

Incredible news! Montana’s Supreme Court just affirmed that the state’s gender affirming care ban is likely unconstitutional.

This makes the state the first state Supreme Court to rule that trans medical care is protected.

This applies REGARDLESS of what the US Supreme Court does.

I wonder how many illegal firearms used in crimes across the Midwest were first obtained and sold by small town police chiefs. The answer is undoubtedly more than 0, which is a scandal in and of itself.
