Basically, but not exclusively. That's the % of people in the US that would support the white nationalism option, no matter what. No matter how bad it gets. At any cost.

It's slightly *less* than half of all US white folk, plus some Herman Cains and Kanyes and various other non-white folk.🤷🏿‍♂️

I said something last week that is more broadly applicable today:

Calling for empathy is not neutral or apolitical when only one group of people have been socialized and brutalized into having empathy.

Judging by the shamefully opportunistic & politicizing rhetoric of some rightwingers on Twitter, & their cynical use of Charlie Kirk’s horrific murder for political point scoring, it’s almost as if Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman wasn’t murdered by a Trump-voting MAGA maniac just 12 weeks ago.

counterpoint: these exact same losers say the exact same thing every time anybody talks back or puts a girl in a video game or whatever so i don't think the liberal urge to performatively flinch at the canned backlash is a useful reflex in 2025
Very, very bad stuff coming from leading right-wingers

I think Jackson understands her audience, and is writing to assure normal people that, no, you do not have to take a GOP-controlled Court protecting a GOP president seriously. ICE is also the fault of a complicit press.

How, where and who did ICE recruit? Why isn't every newspaper in the country devoting themselves to finding out who is in this brand new secret police force that now terrorizes America?

It's the definition of newsworthy. The answer is: they're afraid.

So important. This is America.

Freedom, equality, democracy, human rights are not and never have been dictated by polling approval.
I just like to post these data from time to time to puncture the mythological aura of mid 20th c protests. They were less popular than pretty much any 21st c mass action & people criticizing them used the same lines. Protest is about people coming together, shaping narratives, & building power.

I've now learned: there's one country where the commonsense reaction to wild edgelord speech is "well can't do anything (except maybe give them high ranking government positions or billions in government contracts)" and another country where the common sense is "no literally put that guy in prison"

this seems quite relevant these days. not just them freaks in other states, ignorant minds all around for sure
People in the scientific community like Sagan often saw the decline in science literacy before we did because they were looking at it. He was a great science communicator. The Dunning-Kruger is strong in too many these days.

anyone who writes about or talks about the ongoing impact of racism in the united states is accused of a "victim mentality," but this here is the actual victim mentality
This from @jdcivicscience.bsky.social nails why small town, red America is not turning on Trump.

The white men fantasizing about the return of American manufacturing don’t actually think they or their kids will be working in the factories. This is their American individual idealism at work: they believe there will always be someone else working hard for their benefit

Two free tips for anyone writing about Trump requiring people to do something

1) you can say purporting to require
2) no obligations have been imposed on people. The order tells agencies to take appropriate action to implement a policy; let's keep space between Trump's word & law as long as we can
Breaking news: President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday requiring people to provide documents proving they are citizens when they register to vote, a mandate that could prevent millions of Americans from voting.
Trump orders states to require proof of citizenship in federal elections
Election experts said Trump was claiming power he does not have and said lawsuits over the measure were all but guaranteed.

Too many political journalists fall into this weird habit of compartmentalizing Stuff That Happened To Black People and you just can't do that.

It's braided into every part of the nation's history and identity and you can't just skip over it in understanding how we got here or how to respond

Many Medicaid recipients do not know they receive it because Medicaid is called different things in different states. The public narrative of Medicaid focuses on a distant other, but 40% of US children and 60% of nursing home residents receive Medicaid. Just SOME of the names by state are below:
