Analytical chemist, enthusiastic woodworker, oldest netrunner in the world. He/him.
More joy from this paper than I've had from any other that I've written - coauthored with my father (now passed away) and my son, so 3 generations of PhD chemists. Can anyone beat that?

From Breaking Bad to Breaking Bonds—Mass Spectrometry in the Classroom
We describe a workshop that prompts chemistry students in the final 2 years of secondary school to apply their understanding of modern analytical chemistry techniques to a ‘real world’ example. The s...

Now we're back to work post-winter break, commission me! Or hire me to do tech and gaming news shifts!

I'm also really great at conveying complex ideas simply so would be a great shout for any guides or board game manuals that need writing 👀

🎩💍 (my hat is in the ring)
I found out Friday that my freelancing job no longer exists, the site is shutting down immediately with all booked shifts (3 for me) cancelled and no more available (I usually worked 5 - 10 shifts a month depending on uni workload).

If anyone knows of any games journalism work going let me know!

I got to write for the startmenu Winter Spectacular 🥰 I wrote about how this year I've tried to slow down and appreciate the games I've already got.

Interesting molecules I've worked on (3): XFIN31 and TF3A5 are zinc finger units involved in regulating DNA transcription, and novel in that despite only having between 25 and 30 residues they adopt a stable structure containing two secondary structure units, an alpha-helix and a beta-sheet.🧪

Now an actual starter pack and not a feed! Let me know if you want to be added, or removed. #NetRunner

interesting molecules I have worked on, no 2.
Phospholamban is a 52 residue protein which regulates heart muscle contractility, in it's native state, it acts as a brake, when phosphorylated, it potentiates cardiac contractility. 🧪

So, tolaasin, I hear you ask? What's the deal with the name? Mushrooms go brown because a bacterium, P. tolaasii, colonises the surface and secretes a lytic toxin, tolaasin, which is unique in having a left-handed alpha-helix made of D-amino acids. My PhD covered its structure determination.

An exhausting but rewarding day being the eyes for an amazing player and friend at the UK Netrunner National championships in Sheffield.

When two interests intersect - woodworking, and analytical chemistry. I made this box from purpleheart wood, the intense purple colour is a consequence of the presence of Peltogynoid Quinone Methides. 🧪

Ever wondered why bees are so mellow, and wasps so angry?

All is now clear.
