Every week it's something new. Epstein, ICE, grift, destroy another American institution. It's fukkin exhausting and it doesn't seem like anyone, R or D is doing a damn thing about it. I think we're gonna have to save ourselves, no one is coming to help. I'll never give up the fight, we can do this!

Retiring Walmart CEO Doug McMillon made $27M last year, over 930 times the median Walmart worker's salary of just $29,469.

Walmart's wages are so low that its workers are among the most likely to rely on SNAP and Medicaid to get by.

After Missouri residents voted to repeal their state’s near-total abortion ban and enshrine abortion rights into their constitution, abortion providers still had to challenge a slew of restrictions. More than a year later, they're still in court. It's not the only state with this same problem.
These states voted to protect abortion rights. Conservative lawmakers are not standing down
A trial in Missouri illustrates how hard it is to restore abortion rights, even when voters demand it

Never forget Epstein’s little helpers – the powerful men who knew about his crimes, and helped him out anyway | Marina Hyde
I’m sorry, but this is not just a political scandal. Time to refocus on the horrific mistreatment of women and girls, and the role of these ghouls, says Guardian columnist Marina Hyde

What I find amusing about the Express' cinematic universe is that the UK is simultaneously free and thriving thanks to Brexit and poor and oppressed thanks to the current government. This dichotomy is also reflected in Mail/Telegraph etc but its at its most acute in the Express.

Newsrooms across the world should be treating the Epstein files as a top-tier story.
If coverage is being sidelined, that editorial choice is worth paying attention to.

1. In 2009 I wrote this. I argued that Peter Mandelson's department “functions as a fifth column within government, working for corporations to undermine democracy and the public interest.”
This thread explains what I saw, and reaches a startling conclusion.🧵

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.
