Excited to say that I am making progress on a writing project I've been dreaming of publishing since I was 10 years old. The third draft of my science-fiction novel is underway and I can't wait to release it into the world the end of next year.

a man in a vest and tie is making a surprised face
Alt: Fourteenth Doctor played by David Tennant wearing a navy waistcoast over a white, collared shirt and a lighter-blue tie. He is dancing from foot to foot with ecstatic glee in the TARDIS.

How anyone thought Palestine Action was a terrorist group is beyond me.

To emphasise the imbecility of the whole thing, a brother of a friend of mine ironically held up a sign outside a police station reading "I support genocide". They were completely ignored!

Thank you to Sheriff Bilal for stating the truth undiplomatically. It's about time someone actually cared about crime.
Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal warns ICE:

"No law enforcement professional wears a mask... Those that come into our communities wearing a mask to commit crime... You getting arrested".

"Fake wannabe law enforcement... The criminal in the WH will not be able to keep you from going to jail".

It's mad that the BBC has - every day now - a rolling feed of reports debunking AI footage and verifying claims by people. And the people convinced by AI and political lies will never see it, let alone believe it.

I wish money had never been invented sometimes. It's the death of compassion for a lot of people.
And there ya have it…

Officials from top Wall Street firms will be traveling to Venezuela to investigate “investment prospects” of the country. “The trip will feature about 20 officials from the finance, energy and defense sectors.”
Finance Industry Eyes Investment Opportunities in Venezuela
Some on Wall Street are already considering possible investment opportunities in Venezuela following the capture of Nicolás Maduro, according to Charles Myers, chairman of consulting firm Signum Globa...

Keir Starmer is disappointing as hell. Before the election, I didn't have high hopes, but his indecisiveness erases his entire former identity as a fighter for law and order. He shouldn't need facts to ascertain that Trump has broken international law. They are blatant.

Zohran Mamdani seems a genuine person who will work hard in good faith to achieve positive change. It's remarkable to think that is unusual and yet should be a given trait of Humanity. Compassion is within all of us, and yet often people call it a weakness. Fuck that backwards belief!

Just so much BS that this planet has to put up with.

Tech is out of control.

Sometimes I wish mathematics was a bit like physics for cases like this. You attempt to deny Earth's gravity by demonstration and you start accelerating towards the centre.
Trump: "We're going down -- you can do your own math -- but it's 2,000%, 3,000%. It's pretty amazing"

Thank you to my publisher, Barnard Publishing, for sending me an early Christmas present. A proof copy of my novel coming out next year!

Currently surreal, but gradually feeling real.

FAVOURITE READS OF 2025
A list of ten novels I've read this year that have made a mark on my soul. In no particular order.

1. The Priory of the Orange Tree (2019) by Samantha Shannon

Sweeping, epic fantasy with vivid characters!

Every time he miraculously rears his head in public, I’m reminded how despicable and wildly unqualified he was to lead the UK
Jo Cox was murdered before the vote by a far-right terrorist & this is the language this complete disgrace chooses to use

I really, really want to laugh (if not to let off some steam), but this is utterly depressing, pathetic and possibly the stupidest plan ever conceived; even Baldrick would be flabbergasted.
LOL -- Trump announces that his new healthcare plan, which he says was inspired by watching the pharma CEOs kiss his ass, is simply asking the healthcare companies to lower their prices

So incredibly sad to hear about Amanda Brotchie - such a phenomenal talent gone way too soon. I will remember her contributions to the Doctor Who Universe this past series very fondly!

Flashback to the surreal moment I got the chance to write a short story for Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart from Doctor Who in 2018. The published version was altered to avoid copyright issues, but here's the original:

The extremely slow pivot from claiming Venezula was an authoritarian government (which has credence) to drug smuggling and now to claims of stolen oil is laughable. People must being paid milions to swallow this shit.
Trump on Venezuela: "Getting land, oil rights, whatever we had -- they took it away because we had a president that maybe wasn't watching. But they're not gonna do that. We want it back. They took our oil rights. We had a lot of oil there. They threw our companies out. And we want it back."

Whoever said Trump would start a war before revealing his egregious involvement in the Epstein files was right on the money. How there are still no articles of impeachment blasting their way up the chain of government hierarchy is beyond my comprehension. Get him gone, ASAP.

You know what, I've never really been a fan of football, but the way fans across the world have been treated by the rich and powerful for the 2026 World Cup is utterly disgraceful. The sport has been completely hijacked by greed.

Sometimes I get so crazed about the corrupt cronyism, my inner Charlie emerges.

The web of stinking sleaziness the Trump administration is connected to and has unleashed on this world is unprecented. Where is the accountability? It starts with people saying no to bullies.

The War Between the Land and the Sea has already captured my attention. Heavy on the morality, soft on the action, just how I like it!

Gosh, @benaaronovitch.bsky.social 's Rivers of London series is a sheer delight! This is a series I will eagerly be lapping up for the next year or so.

Moon Over Soho surpasses the first in the series with concerning capers and crazier creatures. I'm in awe!

I know FIFA has been corrupt for a long time, but handing the least-deserving candidate alive a "peace prize" is their way of saying: "Yes, you've let us get away with literal murder, so we'll do what the fuck we want, and reward our evil friends."
